So, you are saying that each of the conference winners are better than 'Bama? Now I may be wrong, but aren't there something like 6 conferences? How does that fit into your 4 team conference winners? Oh, and the "SEC homers" have earned the right to talk, after all 6 years in a row...

i agree 8 team playoff would be the best. It should be the 6 previous BCS conference champions, SEC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac 12, ACC, and Big East and then have 2 at larges which would likely be the next 2 highest ranked teams including SOS. Of course there would still be controversy over the picking of the 2 at larges, but atleast 6 of the teams in the playoff would be indisputable.

 

There have been years when the fourth conference champ is ranked 8 or 10 or something. Nobody can honestly say that the 8th best team in the nation belongs in the playoff more than the 2nd ranked team, can they?

There's not enough parity between conferences to just say "The top four conference champs get in." That's saying that the champ of the Big East or the Mountain West or CUSA is as deserving as the SEC or Big 12 champ.

There's also not enough parity within several conferences. Teams like Houston, Boise St, Southern Cal would have a MUCH better chance at making it to the playoff than teams in more competitive conferences.

But what do I know? I'm just a SEC homer.

 

Why only conference champs? It's just like having a wild card which every pro sport has.

Example, maybe your team has a key injury causing a conference loss that cost you a conference title game when you know or feel your team is better with the return of that player. Don't you want a shot?

This. I'm not one to talk a lot about the SEC being the best, but you can't deny this.

Maybe so, but there are too many holes in that one. There are some weak-ass conferences there (ACC ring a bell?) that have no business being muttered in the same breath. Can't argue with the top 8 ranked teams instead -that way, no one can argue that the best teams are playing. Although some would still get butthurt over it if, say the SEC had more than one team in there...but, isn't the idea of the playoff to determine the best and not a bunch of crybabies?

 

Filing that away. While we are only 2-4 in the 2000's versus the SEC, look at the score. All except the VT vs LSU game we were in it. The widest margin being 10 points, not so much a show of superiority..... But go ahead and toot your horn...for now. Glad we are playing Bama next year.

It is what it is...well, with all of those powerhouse teams that the All Cupcake Conference has...

 

Alright, I do agree with the top 8 teams being in. But, they need to have a rule for the top 4 they have now. It should not be the top 4, should be the top 4 conference champions. You can't completely argue that. Last year was a bit different with the final standings. But in all the years past, at least 1 from each power conference (POWER, mind you... not including ACC) was in the top 6 of the final standings.

Once again, as was said earlier, what happens when those top four conference aren't in the top whatever? How is it not fair for the top 8 ranked at season's end to be the ones versus the winners who could very well be not in the 8? Just because they win their conference doesn't really mean shit..

well in general the entire ACC is only 2-13 in BCS bowl games and VT is 1-4, even the big east is 7-7 in BCS bowl games so anyone could conclude that the ACC was indeed the weakest BCS conference.
