Missing oil cooler?

I'm fairly new to Tacoma's and I've had my truck for about three weeks and the window sticker said "supplemental oil cooler" and I can't seem to find where that would be.

I have a 09 DC 4x4 with the trd off road pkg and the tow pkg from the factory. My cousin just bought his truck last night and I noticed he has the oil cooler mounted at the driverside of the radiator/ac condenser but he has an access cab 4x2. Wouldn't the cooler be in the same place?

 

it should be mounted right in front of the radiator. it may be up a little more than most others, but it should be there in the front.

 

I have an 07 TRD Sport 6 speed. No oil cooler, but the window sticker said it has one. The stealership said that oil coolers go on tacomas with automatics. Could be some bull that they told me, or maybe they just meant transmission cooler?

hell.....i may be thinking about a tranny cooler, but i was thinking the oil cooler mounts in front of the radiator also.

 

Wow, that's the smallest and possibly oddest cooler I've ever seen. Doesn't look like it can do much cooling.

Hmm... so in colder climate or areas where it rains or snow most of the time, wouldn't it actually heat the oil with the coolant rather than cooling?

I know Honda uses the same technology with their throttle bodies to keep it from freezing in cold areas but it heats up intake air so most owners just disconnect it. I was just expecting an actual cooler like the tranny cooler.

I would've never thought..... I'm supposed to have one also and I don't remember seeing anything like that while changing my filter (but then again, was I really looking hard enough?).

I'll have to look and make sure I have one!!

 

I believe it only came with the Off Road package and not the Sport package.

 

The Tow Package dictates whether or not the vehicle is equipped with an oil cooler.
It is only about 2" high located at the base of the filter.

FWIW: Optimum coolant temp is 190°F and oil 220°F. (Ref: http://www.synlube.com/oilv.htm)
The benefit of the coolant cooled version is consistancy at all driving speeds. This also allows the oil to get hot enough to burn off moisture. Too cool of oil is more determental to the engine until the oil reaches 260°F.
