Well I sold my 2nd Gen Tacoma and was looking for a new project and found this '87 Samurai with 82,000 original miles yes original so I bought it for $2500 already had a SPOA lift done to it but its time for upgrades. My plans for the future are doing a VW 1.9 TD swap and doing a 8" coil over lift and doing a lot of work to the body and I can't wait to get this thing started its going to be an awesome rig.

+1 on all of the above... but an 8" lift is going to make it pretty damned top-heavy.
Assuming you won't be planning any high speed mountain roads or serious highway.

But those trucks SMOKE on the trails.

I had an '88 samurai and that thing was impossible to kill. Only downside was it was a hard top. Took all the doors and glass except windshield off. Should've kept it considering I only paid $300 for it. Beat the piss out of it drunk a bunch of times then sold it it for $400. Definitely a solid built rig. Good luck with the build!

Yeah it's gonna be top heavy as hell but when I was doing the research for VW swap im gonna need extra clearance for the swap. I figured if I am gonna spend money and time on this thing it's gonna be done the right way so i can get max flex and potential out of it.

Awesome! That is one of the best wheelers ever made. You're going to have a lot of fun with that rig!

Why don't you swap the fronts to some larger leaf packs like the old jeeps did? Don't know if it's an option or not.

Well honestly I am still debating on what lift, I want the coil conversion kit but I don't really know if it's that necessary I could just use YJ springs but how much flex am I really gonna get?

I used to wheel with a guy who had one of those and holy shit was that suzuki fun. It went almost everywhere the big guys went, and crawled like a champ.

When the time comes to build another wheeler I hope I can find one

The only thing with YJ kit is its a spring under kit and mine already has a spring over kit and to get a yj spring over kit the lift is way to excessive. But putting smaller tires on the spring over kit would achieve MAX flex.

I do like the idea of the YJ kit a lot better than the calmini kit though.

I would get an older jeep or samurai myself if I had the extra cash.
