No, it does work like that. You need to get an older case off a toyota truck and get an adapter plate form Marlin Crawler. The exhaust is in the way and would need to be moved, and biggest problem we encounter is that the Taco is heavier than the older trucks, and with the older passenger drop case, it is a smaller transfer case. (Not a terrible thing, but still)

I got my transfer case adapter from Inchoworm, great product and I've had zero issues with it leaking. The good thing about doing a passenger side/gear driven case swap is; you can use a Toyota axle, you and gear the case to 4.7 or go ahead and dual case it.

You can flip the Toyota axle to drivers side, just take a good bit of work from what I've heard/read. The time and money you would have it doing an axle flip you would just about be better off putting in the gear driven case.

I didn't have any issue with moving/cutting the exhaust, but it is pretty close. There may have been instances where this was needed, but just thought I would throw it out there. I will try and get a pic up later.

It is not my dd, it's for towing motorcycle, hunting, and eventually rock crawling once the swap is done

If you just listen to what he is saying, we are telling you the same thing. You need a driver side drop AXLE if you are running the stock transfer case (Which you are). Just go this route.

Passenger side drops are only for a swapped out toyota truck gear driven transfer case. OLD trucks.

Search for jeep wagoneer axles, (Dana 44) like mid 80's. They are the axle that matches the taco's WMS. Or you can go with an older late 70s ford BRONCO dana 44.

or he can get a taco box and keep the driver drop tcase and still have duals with 4.7's. Then he can also get a d44 and save all the extra trouble.

X2 44s are easy to find and getting an axle that was meant to be driver drop will make things much easier down the road

There still is a problem with that. Dual cases aren't free ;) But yes this is another route. But please lets not confuse the OP again...

If you have a v8 then I definitely wouldn't do a Toyota axle, unless you did a FJ80... The 44 would be your best route, and it might not hurt to put some quality shafts in it too...

If you have the v8 don't fuck with a 44. What size tires do you want to run on your truck?

Ignore that stupid craigslist ad. It will not work for your truck.

I found a Driver side drop Dana 44 off of a 78 ford, and when I went wheeling this weekend and a lot of people on the trail said to get a Dana over a Toyota pickup solid axle

I have 4.7L v8 and am having trouble finding an oil pan I could use. A friend recommended getting the oil pan off a 2wd, will that work?

I don't know, check TTORA and Rock Solid Toys. I've seen a few Tundra and even a Seqouia SAS so maybe it will say there.
