Fair, but in some of my classes these kids complain about it while they all have iphones and designer clothes. Those were the people my frustration was towards.

it gives a lot of power to HHS, especially the secretary of HHS, ..also expands medicaid, and new stuff like IPAB... there's no such thing as a small gub'mt program ;)

No max , coverage never expires till you do

Interestingly enough , I learned tonight while doing some reasearch that BC is the only province that collects an additional monthly fee , $60 / month

Well yes, in those cases, I would say it's warranted that they need to reassess their priorities...but what kid young enough to still be in school is thinking clearly about life responsibilities... that's a different topic I'd think ;)

Other than the oversight of HHS Secretary to approve/deny state applications to replace PPACA with their own implemented program, the rest of these powers are ones the government already holds.

    - Medicaid is by application. You have to go get it. It's not like government agents come to your home and force you to sign up for Medicaid.

    - IPAB is giving a formal name to a function CMS already performs - quality of care initiatives and fee schedules. They're already doing this stuff, have been for years. You must not have noticed.

You do understand that if you like the insurance plan you have now, you're welcome to keep it, yes?

I guess that's what he means. Hell, most people would be THRILLED if their health premium was only $60/mo. It'd be a massive cost reduction for the majority of the nation's insured.

As an example, my plan's premium with my employer is about $200/mo right now. I pay about $50 of that, my employer picks up the rest. Imagine if I was responsible for $15 and they paid $45? I'd say we'd BOTH be happier. I don't care if it's a tax instead of a for-profit premium to a private corporation...less money is less money and leaves more in my pocket!

i'll have to disagree w/ you here, ...medicaid will "expand", HHS authority will "expand", state bureaucracies will expand to implement the new "exchanges" and medicaid (although the SCOTUS limited the feds ability to force this), and and "expansion" in IRS "enforcement"...

...so i guess this is just an itty bitty gub'mt expansion, you know, ..kinda like social security was supposed to be, ..medicaid, medicare - all "little" gub'mt programs, eh?... ;)

the $60 OZ mentioned is "in addition" to that paid by those in other provinces, ...so, for some reason their gub'mt feels in necessary to extract more blood from turnips in BC, than in AB... ;)

The $60 isn't the total cost , that is an additional cost in BC only , the main healthcare system is funded by taxation , not specific premiums per se

Wrong , the BC cost is collected provincially , not federally

I need you to define your buzzwords to give you an appropriate response. HOW do you feel they will expand? Increased enrollment? Increased budgets? Increased employee payrolls?

Give me some specifics. Right now you're just using generalized adjectives to make a vague prediction. You're not contributing any real information, just your own guessing.

So...what? You don't like government programs? Well, then stop sending your kids to public schools, stop driving to work on public roads, stop accepting protection and aid from local police and fire departments, stop using publicly subsidized water, sewage, and electrical utilities, stop requesting protection of your constitutional rights from our military, stop sending and receiving mail using the publicly subsidized postal service, stop reading books or consuming media from any publicly subsidized library, and stop making use of anything else that was ever partially or fully funded by government tax revenue.

Seriously. Somalia is right over there and has none of that horrible stuff. You'll be happy as a clam. ;););););););););););)

You're welcome. I try to do what I can. On occasion.

    And?

Right, I knew it's taxation funded. I wasn't sure if you meant your taxes were $60 higher there in relation to whatever portion of tax funds the health care system, or it was an additional fee, or what.

In any event, is everyone up in arms about it, or happy they have free unlimited health care based on need? I'm curious as to your personal experience.

it's not free, ...they are taxed for it, and thus pay for it...

In BC , I pay an additional $60 / month into a provincial medical fund

I don't hear people complaining about the cost of the system , there is more concern over such things as wait times , lack of family doctors available , efficiency of the system , etc

No one is disputing that the Canadian system is paid for through taxation , and only an idiot would think it is free

buzzwords?.... like "expand"?... expand isn't a buzzword, nor is it nebulous in this context...

the bigger, more numerous the programs, the more fraud/waste/abuse - it's been estimated FWA in programs like medicaid/medicare/SS is 1/3 or 33% - fraud, money down a rathole... when gub'mt expands, it displaces charity, values, liberty...

True. An inaccurate choice of words. How bout we amend to:

"How does everyone feel about their healthcare with equal access and provision based on need for all citizens?"

Those are the typical concerns I hear as well regarding single payer and universal systems when I converse with colleagues working in those systems.

When they hear about some of the problems endemic to the US healthcare system they are agog.
