Ishock Mid Travel Review

I had the trd billy springs on my 5100's. I didn't mind the ride at all. In fact, I enjoyed the stiffer ride over stock. I think it's the best bang for the buck, that fact I'm not arguing. I ran it on my truck for about a year. I had wheels and tires, and I was ready to go bigger and better.

And I don't want to mislead anyone on here, especially newer guys reading this thread for information. If you go 2.5" on your billy's, there is a pretty good chance you're gonna need new UCA's. So go ahead and tack on $500 bucks or so to that kit. This kit comes with uca's.

The fact is, comparing Billy's to an aftermarket coilover isn't apples to apples. The billy's are a great product. They served me very well. I wanted more lift without compromising the ride by preloading my factory springs anymore than I already had. I achieved the look, ride, and lift/stance I was going for. The truck is more comfortable on and off road, and overall I'm still pumped every time I look at my truck.

As for the mid-travel statement, that's not my claim, and I don't have the know how to explain it. Feel free to check out ishock's website for details. I know they advertise 20% increase in travel over OEM and they call it their mid travel kit.

 

Do it!!! I won't be the only one anymore! Talk to the guys at DSM if you're interested.

 

Agreed, the LR in 5100/LR/AAL I posted was Light Racing UCAs.

 

Haha, got ya. I was wondering how you were coming up for $1,000 for a billy setup.

What's nice about our trucks is that there are good options for all budgets.

The point of my review wasn't to smash the billy's compared to this kit, because that's not a fair comparison. I only mentioned the billy's because those and stock were all I have personal experience to compare to.

 

i wonder how this kit could be compared to OME, i mean i know theres not a dakar equivalent but still, OME is designed for 2-3" of lift

 

tbturner47 (Travis) is running the OME on his 2012. We're due to meet up, so we can do a little review. I can let him drive my truck around and do a comparison. My guess is we're right around the same ride height, but I can always crank my front up a little more if I want. Once I get new tires I'll probably go another 0.5 inch of lift up front. That's the beauty of coilovers!

I think this kit is about the same price as the OME if you factor in purchasing UCA's with the OME. Ishock has the option to do a 1.5 AAL rather than the block if you prefer. No extra cost either. I'm looking forward to checking both out.

Travis, we need to hit up uwharrie one day and put these trucks through the paces! Or I can head up your way if you have some good spots to wheel.

Nice kit man. I was wondering how the rear shocks soaked things up? Looking to upgrade from stocks right now.

 

The rears are great and they look awesome as well. Check out my vids on the first page to see the rears in action. They ride great on the road as well.

Just an update, still loving the kit, no issues. I'm hoping to get out to Uwharrie by the end of the summer to really put it through its paces.

I have a few vids posted in this review, doesn't do justice on video, but those are pretty rough ruts easily 18-20" deep, truck rolled through with no problems at all.

 

I am giving this lift alot of consideration. My only issue thus far is the rear...I want to couple this with a Dakar leaf pack. My real question lies in the fact that on Ishock's website it says their rear shocks are designed for 0" to 2" of lift. With the real world results from Oz T's thread showing the Dakar's achieving around 3" of lift how would these "2 inch" rear shocks fair?

 

Which model truck was Oz-T's review based on? Then again, I can't imagine the weight on the rear of the truck being that much different between models. Any feedback on if the dakar pack settles at all?
