Maybe that was unclear. Let me clarify by changing one word:

"many people who need treatment cannot make decisions for themselves at the time treatment is needed. Perfectly healthy people generally make fine decisions; they also don't need treatment while healthy, so their ability to make a choice about it is irrelevant."

    Is that clearer?

...some things were struck down as unconstitutional, but by and large they kept most of it... i didn't express a challenge to this, ...just because SCOTUS oks something doesn't mean it's good law/policy... the case wasn't about healthcare being a "right", ..it was about the ability of the gub'mt to exact taxes for a good/service deemed necessary - a very slippery slope in and of itself...

there is waning physicians pool here for a few reasons, but you forgot to mention that many doctors are closing up shop, ..and many are refusing medicare/medicaid patients because of the red tape, problems getting paid, etc...

    LOL, sure...

My buddy had his leg broken in multiple places (spiral fracture or something), he was out in the middle of nowhere. Was helivac'd 300 kilometers (186 miles) to the closet suitable hospital and got fixed up right then and there. Two years of physiotherapy and rehabilitation later and he is almost good as new!

Total direct cost to him, zero. Canadian healthcare system; priceless. ;)

It has nothing to do with age or caps or anything like that. It has everything to do with being a Canadian citizen.

yep, i believe it is a recent trend here... it's what happens when physicians are de-incentivized by gub'mt intrusion into their livelyhood/profession... i'd suspect it's worse for you guys though...?

Last year I woke up in about five gallons of sweat and freezing cold. My wife had to help me get to the hospital emergency department, about a ten minute drive away.

I waited all of five minutes to talk with the nurse at admissions. They had me on a stretcher and seeing a doctor within 10 minutes, I then got the necessary treatment and was put under observation for a couple of hours and then sent home. (some weird water born virus, very nasty...).

Anyway, if you didn't get what I was trying to say, the Canadian medical system took very good care of me. My wife and father have had serious issues that were taken care of just as quickly.

I can see my family doctor almost always with a days notice, if not quicker if needed.

And no, it isn't free but any Canadian citizen, wealthy or homeless can get quality healthcare when needed and not worry about a huge bill down the road.

Well I finally sat down and caught up on everything, and read that Reddit article (Thanks Jandrews). Seems like the PPACA will be very beneficial, as it seems that the amount of good/positives that come out of it will FAR outweight the negatives.

Your a silly goose indeed. A silly, silly goose.

The Canadian healthcare system has literally saved my life at least twice so far, the 3rd is debatible. I have personally seen wait times decrease over the years, and with the free flowing technology and faster access to patient records people are also being treated better too.

For those wondering about costs? Sure, yes we are in fact taxed (via income taxes) higher then Americans, but I don't feel what I pay is wasted. I have zero issues paying to treat any other fellow Canadian for health care for any reason be it old, ailing, or otherwise. Whats the point in living if you have a shitty quality of life?

I care more about paying welfare for people to sit on their asses. That shits bullshit.

The SCOTUS does not rule on whether things are "right" or "wrong". It rules on whether they are legal.

The portion of physicians not participating in Medicare/Medicaid is *tiny*. Absolutely tiny. The majority that are closing shop are doing so because they want to practice medicine and that's almost impossible with the current insurance setup. They're fed up with the whole system. That's why alternatives like cash-only practices are showing up and growing in popularity (even if they remain a miniscule part of the market).

I would have no problem with Govt healthcare if it were fair, affordable on taxes, and med professionals still could make an above avg living off it. This bill is not Govt health care, just an expansion of medicare, which is a PITA to most med professionals. I dont think this will run as smoothly as Canada.

What pisses me off most is the bill was passed by ppl who never read it, nor will ever use it.

That depends on whether or not the company you work for continues to provide it. The problem is the penalty they imposed on companies for not providing insurance is much lower than the cost of providing it.

I don't get what point the bolded part is trying to make. There is no "Federal Insurance". Congress and their staffers already get the same coverage available to any federal employee. They choose from a pool of insurance providers (e.g. Kaiser, Pacificare, Blue Cross). Staffers don't get any additional coverage that isn't available to me as a federal employee. By law, the Federal government is limited to covering 75% of the cost of an insurance plan.
    http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/health-care-for-members-of-congress/

For me, I had better coverage at a cheaper price when I worked for a private company than anything that is available in the federal pool. Right now, I'm on my wife's Kaiser plan because it's cheaper for us.

I'm impressed fellers, people didn read the first post in that this isn a political thread. It was a thread trying to get a feel of who else on here has pre-existing conditions. However, you went semi political but kept it sane and I learned a shit tone more on the new health law. Cheers:)

Is your cholesterol intake not based on anything in that your meds help equalize it?

You obviously have yet to do your research on the farming industry and farm subsidies in the United States. What I find interesting that people want to fight for the little man but our biggest little man, the small town farmer, is going out of style like healthy food. On top of the fact that our food industry is killing us slowly.

Dont get me wrong Im a dollar menuaire but its rediculous what they have done to farming. Btw you cant spin the argument that it's the gov't fault because they did this to keep our food cheap.

Did you know cows can only survive up to 6 months without medical supervision. Do you also know what is healthier for you coke from the US or coke from Mexico?

Dont think I can pull this becuase I had various CT's for when I was in the hospital for my liver injury. CT's were justified, not informing me was a matter of bullshit.

Just like the news anchors only reading the first page of what the judges voted on.

Bro, it's not that I cant afford it. I had plenty of money saved up. The current system that we had wouldn let me buy into it.

I have a samsung and have been wearing the same clothes from two years ago....

    You sir, are welcome.

And see, something Americans have forgotten how to do. Care about their society as a whole. One on ya, frenchy.

    Yes, yes I would.

    Truth^

He was not saying that in general people cant make decisions for themselves. He was stating when you show up at a hospital incompasitated it is harder if not you are unable to make decisions. I thank the baby jesus that I had amazing health coverage via my ma or I would not of ended up being ambulanced to the best trauma hospital in the state.

They work for us, however the arogance of what they do with the money we pay them is infurriating at times.

See another Frenchy concerned about his fellow man, I swear the history books of my country declare that we were once this way....

    Exactly

Did you test this theory by getting in a major accident on federal coverage and then again on private. Because my old man's private insurance is crap and was why the whole family was on my Ma's private years back. And I asked my cousin how good his Navy Health coverage was. After 6 breaks in his leg, one in the ankle, 4 screws, prescriptions, and multiple surgies, he is still kickin ass in afghan with no cost to him.
