Sucks there's not a direct route through Idaho, it would save a couple hundred miles and a few hours.

Good luck... It's called the sawtooth wilderness area. I've worked in the heart of it. Pretty rugged. You could take Magruder, that's a pretty straight show through there.

Stage 1 fire restrictions in place for the Beaverhead-Deerlodge area, this includes most of the area around Boulder.

Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest Enters into Stage 1 Fire Restrictions
Dillon, Mont., June 29, 2012 The Forest Service will enter into Stage 1 Fire Restrictions
promptly at 12:01 PM on Friday June 29, 2012, and will remain in place until further notice. Restrictions are in place due to high fire danger and ongoing fire activity. Stage 1 Fire Restrictions prohibit the following activities on national forest system lands:

    • Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove fire unless noted in the exemptions below:

    1. The use of petroleum-fueled stoves, lanterns or heating devices are allowed provided such devices meet the fire underwriter’s specifications for safety. Liquid petroleum and LPG stoves that can be turned on and off are allowed.
    2. Attended camp fires within developed campgrounds with fire rings are allowed.
    3. Pintler and Wisdom Ranger Districts along with the Lee Metcalf, and Anaconda Pintler Wilderness areas are exempt from this order.
    4. Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren and cleared of all flammable material.
Even the smallest spark has the potential to cause significant damage, so please do your part to prevent wildfires: exercise caution by making sure to only smoke in areas that meet State 1 criteria and crush cigarettes dead out, never leave any type of fire unattended and make sure it is dead out before you leave. Take precautions while recreating on public lands by not parking on or driving over dry vegetation.
Forest officials remind the public that possession or use of fireworks on National Forest System lands is illegal, and violators may be subject to citation and fine with maximum penalties of $5,000 or up to six months in jail. In addition, anyone who starts a wildfire may be held liable for suppression costs, which can be substantial.
“I hope everyone has an opportunity to visit the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest as we head into the July 4th holiday, but folks need to leave their fireworks at home. Forest personnel will be vigilant in looking for possession or use of fireworks on the Forest,” says Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest Supervisor Dave Myers.
For more information, contact John Hagengruber at (406) 439-0225 or Diane Hutton at (406) 660-2324.

That's what's scaring me. We might be coming up with a "plan b" for the meet if that's the case.

I would suggest in the same camp as last year - if you want to have a campfire that's your only option really.

I'm not really sure yet. 12 hours isn't a problem for me, so I'd probably drive without stopping. I drove 18 hours straight from Portland to San Diego once.
