My solution to the Roof-top tent debate...more options, less money!

Ok, so after reading the whole RTT vs traditional tent debate. I decided I could have the best of both. Now I can sleep up high (and flat) when I want, but I can also have the flexibility of putting my tent wherever I want, and can drive off without having to fold up for the day. Please don't ask for autographs...

(This first required me to mount some Yakima bars accross the bed.)

RTT when traveling. (covered with a Walmart tarp that I use as a shade later)




Folded up. (It has the capability of being folded completely flat when no tent)

great ingenuity, but i bought an RTT for the reasons of ease of set-up, no poles needed as it does it as i fold it up

automatically comes with a nice high quality foam mattress, quality of the tent is much higher than your typical 300$ tent, and comes with a long standing warranty, comes with a full ladder

But not knocking your set-up i think its a great set-up

 

Very cool I have been wanting to do something similar with an oversized Tent Cot.

 

Looks good but i guess i've never understood this bed mounted tent thing. Is the reason you don't have the tent on the ground because of grizzly bears or something? I don't mean to be rude...just wondering why.

 

Keeps you out of the creepy crawleys, and also helps keep the tent cooler than it would be on the ground temperature wise

The bears aren't deterred by the extra height. You just get an extra 37 seconds of terror before they eat you. I hope I taste extra gamey.

Being up off the ground means better breezes and fewer ground bugs (gnats, noseeums, etc.)

And never having to worry about this :



Nice work OP. I thought about doing that, but then my ability at woodworking is constrained by all the beer I drink. Safer to have someone else build it.
