Yep, tried to run a couple if packs Sunday, so hot and dry here, we actually couldn't get the track watered. Wet one end, by the time you got to the other the first would be dusty. Ran one pack said the hell with it, then just concentrated on drinking.

Most indoor friendly helis don't do ANY wind outdoors. As a first indoor, look at a Blade MCX. It's a fun little four channel that's pretty easy to fly, while learning orientation.

What if I wanted something that would do better outdoors? I'm perfectly fine with a larger heli.

Take a look at a CX2, same thing in a larger package. YOU may be able to fly a fixed pitch/tail rotor bird, like a SR120, but if it's your very first (no stick time at all) I'd look into something that's coaxial.

I know this thread is for experienced RC guys, but in my semi-retirement, I'm looking for another hobby and I've always had an interest in flying RC planes. Can any of offer a recommendation about what is an easy way to get started? Money is not an immediate limitation so I'd rather start with quality products. Is there a all-in-one package that allows me to get flying easily? I can upgrade as I build skills and knowledge. I'll be honest, our hobby shops in San Antonio are pathetic and have been of no real help. I'm a bit lost.

Yeah, lipo is the way to go, but you'll have to source a new charger as well. Lipos on a nimh or ni-cad charger equals very bad day.

I've gotten several little 2 channel air hogs heli's for christmas and I've been flying them around inside a little bit lately. I'm a really fast learner when it comes to anything except chinese arithmetic.
