Anyone done this? I'm considering it because I would like a little bit more room inside the cabin and get 4wd. I'm wanting a DCLB Tundra, but it seems like they're not that common? I saw a white one the other day here in town and fell in love.

I really don't know much about Tundras nor am I able to find much cause all their forums are full of crap about the 2nd gens and they don't have "sections" like we do over here.

Also, if anyone just has some general knowledge about these things please post it up. Double Cabs seem to be a rarity, whereas the ext cabs or whatever they are, are pretty readily available.

There's a DCLB SR5 local with leather 4wd, white, and 84k for 16 and some change.

Mine's got 123k on the dash, an 06, and needs a little TLC. How much do you think this thing is worth? Oh and it's been involved in two minor wrecks.

I Nada'd both trucks and my clean is 16, his is 15.

    They have a good reputation.

Most are V8s, although there were a few V6s built. I believe you will find both the 4.0 and the 3.4 V6 depending on year. That double cab is going to be a 4.7 V8.

When I was considering one, I found out that there were a few early ones with auto trans issues.....I don't have a link to that, sorry. Just something that I remember seeing, you may want to search for that.

I wound up with the Tacoma because I did not want the 4.7. It is an interference, timing belt driven engine. That means that if you wait too long to change the belt, and it snaps, the engine is toast. Very expensive. If you buy one I would recommend you make sure the belt was changed before Toyota recommends. Note that there is a time/mileage interval. Meaning if the truck is under the recommended mileage, but is out of date by time/years, you are running the risk of engine damage by letting it go. Many dealers and private owners will bullshit you on this and tell you it does not need to be done. Rubber breaks down with time, just think of dry rotted tires with tread still okay on them.

Other than the belt issue, I wasn't really concerned. I wanted an stick shift and the slightly smaller, sportier feel of the Tacoma.

Okay cool. It's a 2005 so I don't think it should be considered an "early" model. My dad has mechanic friends so if I do look into it seriously I'll be sure to remember the timing belt issue.

Well we're selling my old truck, an 04 Sierra. So we'll probably need another fullsize again down the road. Yes, there is more room, room I don't have in my Tacoma.. esp when all my friends clear 6ft easily.

ALSO, considering the fact it has 40k less miles for the same price, AND it's a Toyota.. what's not to love?

I want to say it's 7 years, 90K on the timing belt change. Of course you would want to do the whole job while in there, that means belt, tensioner, idler pullies, water pump, cam seals. If any of that fails in the next 7 years or 90K, you are looking at major damage. I would call the dealer or one of your dad's buddies that knows that engine well and ask for a price. It's probably a 1,000 dollar job. Note that part of blue book "good" and "excellant" condition is that the services are up to date. It's not "excellant" if they cant' produce service records or if it's 7 years old and needs that belt changed.

i wouldnt but thats my opinion. just fix the small amount of TLC your truck needs and wait for a dual VVT-i V6 taco within the next couple years...

Thank you, I'll start looking into TSB's and make sure I get all the right paperwork when I stop by Monday.

I understand, and I didn't mean to come off in the wrong tone in my response. ;)

My Tacoma is having major paint problems. Atleast a thousand dollars worth of damage. That would be nice, but I'd really prefer 4wd and leather, and I can drop payments down if I got a cheaper/slightly older truck. Plus that's way out of my price range, if I could have a newer Tacoma with 4wd I'd have it... but I don't.

I would pass on the Tundra. There are better full-size/heavy duty trucks out there.
