AFE Cold Air Intake Advice

I was looking at getting one of the AFE cold air intakes for my 2011 4.0L. What kind of real world gains can I expect from this in power and fuel economy? What filter should I get with it? Is it worth the $350?

 

I can't answer about the Tacoma, but I will say that I put one on my Tundra--Stage 2 Pro 5R-- with the Silver Bullet TB spacer and it made a noticeable improvement in acceleration/response, especially from a stop and while gunning it to pass. Seems to have eliminated the lag I had originally felt. It sounds nice too with my Magnaflow exhaust. The kit was easy to put on, had excellent instructions, and is made very well. Their customer service is very good too. AFE has a fine product in their CAIs. Was it worth it for mpg gains? No, so if that is what you are looking for, don't waste the $350. The difference is so slight it's negligible.

Your better off getting a scanguage and work on better consistent driving. If you get the afe stage 2, get the pro dry, the oil is a pain.

 

You will notice a lighter wallet. Stock intake is already cold air and flows pretty damn well.

 

Get a scan gauge and learn how to drive for fuel mileage. Brake as little as possible, don't speed on the highway ... ect

I have 285's on my truck and im getting in the 18 mpg and above range.

When i had my stock 265/65/17's it was rare for me to get under 20

I have the AFE stage II SI and idk about fuel economy with it, but it breathes much better with my supercharger than the stock intake did
