Me too, to both. Got my license last year and have all the gear, but still no bike. An old boyfriend of mine got killed on his bike last year which was devastating. Most of my friends ride; I kind of hate riding on the back and want my own bike, but honestly I'd probably get a dirtbike first even though I don't know a single person that dirtbikes. Hah.

And ouch that sucks, thats the thing that scares me. Too many bad drivers out there.

Yep. I want a pretty-much-stock (ie, not cafe-racered-out) CB350. I haven't pulled the trigger yet though. I should probably get something else for my first bike anyway. A couple of my friends are really into old Hondas and Yamahas and they are total pushers, but they've been riding forever. I'm still toying with the idea of a dirtbike instead, as long as there are enough accessible places to take it out often after work or weekends. The bay area probably isn't the best place for that.

I also like the look of naked sv650s and street triples (not as beginner bikes for me! just in general). I'm not a super tall chick but am fortunate to have a long inseam at least, so we'll see.

If you want to give dirt a try, you can poke around southbayriders.com and watch out for the dirt newbies day. Great way to learn. There are other days and people willing to help new riders experience the dirt.

One thing's for sure. If you're around motorcycles and motorcycle people for long, you will lose friends. Just within the last 6 months, I've lost three people in my circle of riding friends. All of them were accomplished riders. And it can happen riding dirt too.

All I can say is you do the best you can to learn, become the best rider you can, stay alert and ride within your skill.

I've gone lot of places on street bikes and seen a lot of stuff. Wouldn't trade it for anything. I've been riding dirt bikes (not as much as I'd like) too. That's opened up a whole new avenue of exploration-highly recommended.

haha i love those Hondas, they look sweet.
and yeah i was told to check out older Hondas/Yamahas.
    Iono much bout em though.
yeah there arent too many places around here to mess with a dirt bike unless you want to tear up some lawns. still want one though, maybe for around town.
those sv650s arent bad lookin bikes, street fighter maybe?

Im pretty much clueless on riding em and bikes=/=motorcycles arent the same thing

Ouch that sucks man, yeah anything can happen on a bike.

I plan to not be a "squid", i want to live and explore where a truck cant go through.

For the dirt days? No experience necessary.

For the street, I highly recommend the MSF class. They supply everything.
You just need to meet their dress requirement (which is easy). What's cool about the MSF class is once you're done, you can get your M1 endorsement the next day (with successful completion of the written test).

There are some differences between street and dirt riding but they're easy enough to master (tho you might crash a few times learning :)).

Gonna be a busy weekend... Need to get a new driveshaft shortened, install a Teralow 4:1 kit in my transfer case, and install a slip yoke eliminator.

    Gonna be fun
