It had everything to do with the reason the cop was a dick. To say the cop was unprovoked might be a little misleading.

Here's my take on what happened. I would guess that the cops got a call of a bunch of bikes stunting in traffic ( since this came up on a stunter's site ) and responded. The cop singles out this guy because he had a camera on his head, pulled an incredibly questionable arrest, and took him off to jail so that they could try to get evidence on the calls they were receiving.
The guy was a bit of an ass...but I think I would be too considering the way he was being treated/why he was arrested in the first place. I will say that having the plate like he does is tough to read, and a reason ( as we all know ) for a cop to pull someone over if he wants to.

Lesson here is simple..the cop wanted a reason to pull him over..had one with the plate. If he had bought even a cheap fender eliminator ( assuming everything else on the bike was as it should be ) the cop would have had no reason to pull him over ( even if his ultimate goal was to get access to the video ). They have to start with a lawful reason to pull you over. The cop had one and it went from there. I don't think it's right, and I doubt that the rider could lawfully be arrested for the plate charges ( not sure on Texas law but it seems a bit much for an infraction ). If it were me I would have been one of the ones bailing out of the group as they passed the various exits. I saw quite a few doing just that and with multiple police cars monitoring the group it was only a matter of time until something like this happened.

On the side of the police ( since one officer acting like this reflects poorly on all of them ) we weren't shown what the ride was before the police cars showed up. Open stunting on public roads..possibly. A large group of bikes traveling at higher speeds..possible. Any number of things can make someone call the police and report. And unfortunately that kind of behavior reflects on us all.

Out of all the bikes in that video I only saw 7 or 8 clearly displayed plates. So why this guy ? Camera. Plain n simple.

I would say him making hand gestures to the cop as he's pulling over didn't help matters any. It gives the cop the idea this guy has an attitude.

I would say the cop had reason to be irritated, but I still don't see how he can legally arrest someone for an obstructed plate. It's a minor traffic infraction at best. The guy didn't run,he pulled over when the officer got behind him ( granted he took a bit to pull over). I don't see where the seizure of the camera could be legal or admissible in court.

good get those stunting kooks off the freeway, do that shit in a private lot or something.

Ive been pulled over for TONS of minor things like that but i was in my truck and not on a bike, no front license plate, uncovered offroad headlights, tires sticking out past the fender and only one time did i get a ticket, be respectuful to the cop roll with it and make light of the situation and you will be fine, both cop and rider were being douches in this situation.

Doesn't mean rights should be suspended because you're on a bike. I don't even like bikes fwiw.

I didn't see any violation of a right in the video. The guy broke the law (concealing his plates, participating with friends in a reckless activity, etc) and was arrested for that. While a traffic violation is normally a citation, it can just as easily lead to an arrest. In fact, reckless driving, or aiding and abetting in that, is often an arrestable offense.

and if you think it was justifed to violate the guy's rights to stop bikers from showing there ass on a freeway. please get the fuck out of my country. we have a constitution that protects everybody, even an dumbass like this guy, from illegal search and seizure.

Lots of cops on this forum, I'm sure the majority of them are decent guys but this went too far. Regardless if the rider was aggressive the cop should be fired, all cops like this should be fired too. They flex their law enforcement muscles just because they can get away with it.

"The reason you're being pulled over is because I'm going to take your camera, and we're going to use it as evidence of in the crimes that have been committed by other bikers."

Westbrook later arrested Moore for a concealed license plate, a charge Moore alleges was trumped up to get his camera.

This was the mistake, he should have just gone with the concealed plate, then he would have had a better case to sieze the video. But still, as frustrated as the Sheriff must be, they just need to be smarter than the bikers, this was not a smart stop. Are helicopters not a viable option? Or just get the cops a few of these bikes :D

ive been blocked by these bikers before in 2009. they shut the freeway down, about 100 of them. first i thought it was cool (i was starting my 6hr drive to Houston) nice stunt show. but they did this for thirty miles. i need to get on my way. it was inconsiderate of them to block the whole hwy.
one thing about Texas is that you dont fuck with johnny law. he will beat you down be it right or wrong it is a lot easier to say yes sir sorry sir and go about your business. like some posters have said you fight it in court with a good lawer that has lunch with the judge or DA twice a week. thats are system. my 2

I should say that the cop had a LEGITIMATE reason with the plate. He should have never said anything about the camera. Although the whole group of bikes show a total lack of respect for anyone else on the freeway. Total BS in my opinion. I ride a bike like this, and while I tend to ride a bit more spiritedly than the law would prefer,I am respectful of other motorists. I don't weave in and out of traffic, only pass when I can be safe about it,and if I get caught doing something I shouldn't I accept the fact that I earned it. These fools deserve to lose the bikes for life the way they're acting.

That is my point, but he went in demanding the camera and that seems to show frustration or a lack of forethought on the LEOs part

Every motorist should be treated separately and like it is said, Innocent until proven guilty. That officer pulled up and knew exactly what he was going to do, Arrest this guy for some bullshit charge because he may or may not have been associated with the group that has caused so much trouble, He very well could have just been a local rider that was at the wrong place at the wrong time, Right? So until the officer can prove the bikers involvement into this "group ring" it should have been a regular stop, ETC papers, explaination of why he was being pulled over and the officer should have went by the book, If he felt he needed to search the bikes cubby, he should have asked. The officer had more then enough information to run the VIN... This cop unfortunely just treated this guy like he was a criminal all because he happened to be by a LARGE group of motorcyclists. I respect every LEO but sometimes i get very upset to see that there are officers out there that clearly has problems figuring out how to treat certain situations, Like the police officer shown in the video. The dude did eight hours in jail... Kind of F'ed up that the dude has his bike impounded to, Hopefully he sues the shit out of that cop for at least wrongful arrest or something! I think we can all agree this officer did nothing by the book and should be fairly punished for such, Correct?

Also, Where the fuck did those cops go?! Since when do cops just randomly bolt from a stop like that?! That and how the helmet was placed was all VERY fishy in my opinion. Anybody got an explaination of the running police? ha
