Swapping a 2012 AC for a DC

I bought a new 4WD AC, gray, V6, MT, tow, Convenience package back in Dec and now the wife complains about driving a manual. I figure it's going to be cheaper to change trucks than change the wife out. I want an auto DC, the Stealer is offering me 24K. What is my AC worth with 6K miles on it? None of the used car guides list it.

 

Your best bet would be to sell to a private party.

 

You are going to lose on the deal but it is important to get what is going to work best for you. Unfortunately in your case, you had to learn the hard way. You could try to negotiate a higher trade in price but don't do it until after agreeing on the price of the truck you want.

 

Just keep the truck for yourself and get the wife a new car...problem solved! (Plus, if she doesn't like driving the Taco, you won't have to worry about her messing it up either!)



You can probably get more selling it yourself, but obviously what you lose in $ selling to dealer, could possibly make up for the inconvenience...depending on what that's worth to you.

 

The net difference between your trade-in and the new truck is all that matters really. Is the dealer giving you a good deal on the new DC? If so, it might be worth it to trade it in your AC.

 

^this. Don't get too caught up in the fuzzy math they do between trade in values and purchase price. All you need to be concerned with is the difference between the 2. $24,000 might not be bad if you can negotiate a great price on a double cab.

 

Has anybody got anything useful to say rather than "you are going to lose"? I understand I will get less than I paid, no big surprise here, it happens to few people who buy new and sell used.
I'm looking for somebody who might know what a fair value is for my truck as a private sale or and/or a trade. Obviously if I trade it there is a 3% sales tax saving on the trade in value.

 

It is worth what someone is willing to pay. Why would someone buy a used 2012 when they could get new for a few thousand more with no miles and a longer warranty.

You will be taking several thousand dollar loss on it. You can pout at all the other posts on this thread about it, but you will take a substantial loss.

As was posted above, if you can get new for a few grand more, then go with the trade in, who cares what numbers they throw around.

 

It's a difficult question to answer because the truck is so new.

No dealer will be able to sell a used car or truck (even if just slightly used) at a price that competes with anything new...and they're not going pay you any amount that won't allow them to turn around and sell it at a profit.

Frankly, I think $24K is a pretty fair offer from a dealership, but I have no evidence to back that opinion...nor do I know what you paid for it new. Is it a TRD?
