    Not true.

I think you would have fun on a 250 cross country style bike like a Honda CRF250X or the like (my wife rides a 2006 model!), easy to ride. plenty of power, but not too much, electric start, wide ratio transmission, etc...

I have been riding, racing and working on dirtbikes for over 30 years, and IMO that bike would suit you well, and unlike a 125 would "last" you longer, meaning outgrowing the bikes power.

You are out of your mind! Quads can be more dangerous, I know way more people severely injured on quads than motorcycles, by far. Main reason is the "its just a quad" mentality and people end up getting hurt since they forget to "respect" the machine and it bites you, lol...

Only a quad rider would even think of saying such a thing...

Honda CRF250x or a Yamaha WR250 IMO your best options for an entry level bike..

Ok, I looked at the honda CRF250X and the yamaha wr250 and discussed it with a few of my friends who have been riding for a while.
They agree that those are good bikes. But I'am stuck on the yz125. A friend of mine has has a few yz125's. he loves them and knows a lot about them. So im leaning toward that

I'm new to modern dirtbikes myself, 6' - 185lbs. I picked up a 2002 KX125 a month ago and when the powerband kicks in, holy hell. Grinning from ear to ear. More than enough power than i will be able to use for a long, long time. Have almost gotten myself into trouble a couple of times while learning to control the beast.

If you're like me, rode quads and small (50-85cc) dirtbikes occaisionally as a kid. Then took 10 years off and are now riding small cc vintage Honda's on the streets, you'll be very happy with what a properly running 125 2-stroke can do for you. :)

The only real problem with a 125 is that they have very little power until its in the powerband, plenty fast when revved, but has no torque down low, thats why I think (especially for a new rider) the 250 4 stroke is gonna be more versatile over the long run...

I have owned just about every bike you can imagine, and the 250 4 stroke would be easier to ride and the nice thing is that the 250 will have a ton more top end due to the wide gears compared to a 125 track bike that only goes 50mph..you can lug it around, a 125 doesnt like to put around very well..

Being a newer rider the 250 4 stroke should last a long time before needing the top end simply because he wont be revving the piss out of it all day, pros and cons to everything..

I haven't ridden a dirt bike since I was a kid but I just got a Honda CR 250 love it has lots of power even with my fat ass on it I'm 6'2" 260 but they are right some times it wants to get away from me it will pull the front tire off the ground in 3rd very easy and on dirt roads the rear end likes to try to come out from underneath it even I 4th and 5th but I love it maintenance has to be done a lot but it's pretty easy you can almost learn anything you need on youtube LOL it is a little hassle sometimes when you're trying to go slow through big rocks and stuff on trails because you have to rev it up every once in a while to keep it running

4 stroke for a beginner. Ktms are high maintenance and pricey. Try the Hondas out. And get a dual sport version. I know where there's a 2003 wr250 for sale

Fixed... Never understood the whole KTM's are high maintenance thing. They're the same as any of the Japanese bikes, maybe less with no clutch cable or linkage bearings.

I'll agree with the cable and linkage statement. I don't own a jap or Austrian bike though. Mine was built in Spain
