Out screwing around with an FJ and I see a mud hole (we are in a drought like much of the country), figured I was good because it was a small hole and I wasin 4wd. Apparently in drought conditions mud holes should be suspect!!!! Anyway, puttering at about 5 mph, I went in and the mud slowed me to a stop. It wasn't deep but I wasn't going anywhere with my open diffs and goodyear silent armors. Tried rocking, tried a light e-brake (which actually helped but I was sunk in too far by that point) to no avail- Just dug in deeper. Got out the shackles and recovery strap, FJ pulled me out. Later we climbed a seriously rocky and boulder strewn trail. Stock skid took a few light hits.

FJ did considerably better with his locking diff. I learned a lot about the capabilities of my truck. Good lessons before my wheeling trip to Durango in a few weeks. Enjoy the pictures:)

Momentum required. Lol. Trd sport must have more than just open front rear? I know i should know this but i dont pay much attention to the 2nd gen forum.

Wow! I didn't know about that e-brake technique! I hope I don't need it, but for sure it is good to know that you can do it!

Your hood skewp weighed you down and sunk you deeper in the mud.

An alternative to the e-brake trick (especially if you have an auto) is to lightly feather the brake pedal to limit wheel spin. You have to be light on the pedals however because if you floor both the gas the brake at the same time you run the risk of breaking driveline components.

Yeah, it's pretty pathetic that I got stuck in that small of a hole. Going to do the yellow wire mod Ina few days when I get a chance. Going to the off-road park in hot springs tomorrow with a wrangler and FJ. I hope to learn a little more about the capabilities of my truck.
