I talked to a stereo store about installing one and they said they had put them under the passenger seat, and running the volume knob right behind the shifter.

For anyone that is interested, I found a good place (a little hard to get to) above the left front kick panel. There is just enough surface to mount the Cleansweep and still close enough to run the wires to the HU without additional splicing.

If you remove the kick panel and the glovebox it's easy to slip it in.

Where did you put the volume knob?

That is right...let me see if I can explain this...it takes the sound from your OEM head unit and cleans it before it sends the signal to an amp or multiple amps. You have to use amps with the clean sweep. The thing that makes them nice for our tacos is that the non jbl head unit is very limiting. It has a vloume governer on it so as not to blow the paper thin stock speakers. The clean sweep cures that problem, and gives you a true audio signal to work from.

Maybe someone can give us a better explanation....

I haven't gotten to the volume knob yet but I'm thinking either the plastic cover to the left of the HU/ climate controls just under the left vent OR the little plastic storage compartment down by where your right knee goes.

I don't plan to use the volume all that much (I know...).

Here's the JL Audio Cleansweep description off Crutchfield's site:

You can keep the look and functionality of your factory stereo, and still get outstanding audiophile sound with JL Audio's CleanSweep sound processor. It connects to your factory stereo's speaker lines and cleans up the stereo's output by sweeping away any processing from the stereo that could diminish the sound quality.
Many factory stereos use built-in equalization designed to make cheap factory speakers sound better, but this dressed-up signal can prevent aftermarket speakers from living up to their potential. The CleanSweep uses a 32-bit digital signal processor to remove the factory adjustments, then sends your external amplifiers a perfectly clean signal.
The CleanSweep connects to your factory radio's speaker wires, then takes the output of your factory radio and eliminates the peaks and valleys of the preset equalization, leaving a pure, unadulterated signal for your aftermarket amplifiers, speakers, and subs to work with. Your music will spring to life, with resonant lows, sparkling highs, and a realistic sense of depth and presence.
A simple solution and simple setup
Since the CleanSweep attaches to the speaker wire outputs of your factory radio, it doesn't interfere with any factory radio functions like OnStar® or hands-free calling. Use the two sets of preamp outputs to connect your new amplifiers, and build your system from there. Best of all, you can take the CleanSweep with you when you purchase or lease a new vehicle.
The CleanSweep is simple to use. Once you've connected it, pop the included CD into your stereo, and the CleanSweep corrects the equalization in as little as 20 seconds. You don't have to adjust anything — the CleanSweep utilizes its built-in 120-band digital equalizer automatically, without the need for external control devices. The equalizer settings are saved in the CleanSweep's memory, even if you disconnect the car battery.

Yes, it works to undo the factory HU's processing. Typically as the volume is turned up, the factory HU will limit low frequencies and sometimes the higher frequencies. This is to protect the crap speakers from being blown as easily and maintaining a fairly high listening volume.

When you set up the clean sweep, you set the volume at a specific point (the volume you typically listen to it at highway speeds) . It then does some fancy frequency adjustments based on a provided CD to get a flattened response. Essentially, it uses and inverse of the equalization curve that the factory deck uses to cancel it out.

But, since the software in the cleansweep is based off a set volume and the factory equalization is active (changes with the volume setting) you are more or less limited to use the volume control on the clean sweep. Other wise, if you turn it down, like with the steering wheel controls, then the bass will be boosted at lower volumes and you will no longer get the flat response you were getting.

The clean sweep is cool, but it isn't the perfect solution. That solution doesn't exist as far as I know, or at least I can't afford it.

Mine is located behind the glovebox. There's a small space near the right side where the Cleansweep can be set placed on it's side. It's a tight fit. It's hard to see even with the glovebox off. For the volume knob, I had it placed behind that little door by the driver's left knee.
