Front mud flaps, lift, 33's

    Has anyone figured out how to run front mudflaps with an OME 3" suspension lift and 285/70/17 mud tires (looking at BFG KM2's or FS destination M/T?)

    I have heard many times on here that they will rub, however, I drive lots of gravel and am curious if someone has figured out some way to make it work.

    I am purchasing a new set of mud flaps from a member on here and will be installing the lift and tires sometime in the next month or so.

    Speaking of tearing off mud flaps, this weekend I finally took off the other rear mud flap that wasn't torn off back in December at Boulder Creek... :eek:

    I been lookin' ghetto fabulous for 4 months with one rear mud flap! :D

    Thanks guys, kind of what I expected to hear.:) I just can't stand to see my rocker panels and rear fender flares get all torn up from flying gravel. Maybe something like the 1st gen tacomas had would work.:confused:

    If ya need em then find a way to have em, but if ya dont then take em off, IMO it makes the truck look taller with the mud flaps off

    I've seen a couple of trucks around here Line-X about 6 inches of the rocker panel from the bottom... To me, doesn't look that bad. Got a black truck, it'll look even better.

    I agree, I think the truck looks better with them off, just can't stand the sound of gravel hitting the side.;)

    With my tires and the rear not really lifted at all, I couldn't really get a screwdriver in there to unscrew the couple of screws that were there without jacking up the truck. Rotated the tires this weekend and used that opportunity... :)

    Yeah, maybe I'll try the steps like silver suggested, but those make the truck look lower to, Oh well....

    Hey, while I'm thinking about i LH, how do you like the KM2's, roadnoise on pavement? wearability?

    I love them! They do awesome offroad! Roadnoise isn't very bad at all, considering their mud terrains. They definitely quieter than the old KMs I had. And they have about 8000 miles on them and they're wearing fine, even considering I just rotated them for the first time this past weekend...

    I do not have a lift and have stock Sport tires. However, I did remove my front flaps because they rubbed when pulling into a driveway. I also have the side step bars and they do help deflect rocks and mud away. The front cap on the bar is always covered in road crap and the bottoms are always dirty. This tells me it is working to deflect stuff away.

    I do get some mud that makes it past the bars but I know they help a great deal. I plan to lift and get tires when the stockers need replaced.

    Thanks, I may have to go that route. Doesn't look like it is possible to run the mudflaps with bigger tires, even with a lift.:(

    Has anyone here considered a SPC Upper Control arm to center the wheel away from the rear?
    That would give more clearance to the mud flaps as far as I can tell.

    It's what I'll probably have to do to fit 33"s later to avoid a CMC.

    Have you thought about the rubber flaps, as opposed to the OEM rigid flaps on our Tacos, that don't flap. The hard plastic get broke & pulled off cause there is no "give" when hit or rubbed against rocks, logs, or "tires". There is a Co., Rokblokz, that has the rubber ones to fit & replace our rigid plastic kind. I liked the rubber ones on my old "98" Taco a lot better than these hard ones, just haven't laid out the money for the Rokblokz ones. I think they even offer different length & width. Just a thought.
