can you not get into 4-LO or can you just not turn? turning on pavement in 4-LO is always an awesome thing to do, and gives you a huge increase in horsepower as soon as you go back to 2wd. you have to really turn the wheels to full lock and push the gas as hard you possibly can though or else it wont work, and if you have a locker, engage that too.

make sure you have AAA before you do that, they will have to come and turn on the secret switch in your engine to unleash the extra HP after you complete the steps above. everyone on this site has done it, our trucks really have 300 horse, we just gotta go thru this process to get the rest.

Sounds like it was still in 2wd and he was trying to rock it with the clutch... hence the burning clutch smell. Manual Tcase FTW!

You should not try to load up your truck when at full turn. When you are stuck in sand, engage the 4wd and keep your wheel reasonably straight. Rock the wheel back and forth about 45-90 degrees while carefully accelerating. This will allow maximum traction and help clear the sand from the wheels (assuming you did not have it buried too deep) Sand is tricky to drive in if you are not experienced. No need to take it to the shop. This is normal for most all 4WD trucks.

Making sharp turns while in 4WD will cause binding and eventually break things. This is especially true on dry pavement but can even happen in dry snow conditions (like when pulling into a tight parking space) or on rock/hard pack dirt. This might be what your experiencing even on the beach if your close to getting stuck like you mentioned. Just get in the habit of making your turns a bit wider while in 4WD...don't ever turn with the wheels fully locked to one side or the other. If your actually stuck try to straighten out the wheels a bit before attempting to get out with 4WD engaged...easier on the clutch and the front end components. Read the links below for more information.
