personally man my wife has a honda and i have a tacoma we were looking at getting a new 4runner just like that. but heres the best part about your wife having the 4runner, is shes your wife and you can drive it really whenever. i mean then you have best of both worlds you got the taco and the 4runner. i wouldnt get rid of the taco b/c what happens when you need the truck and now you're stuck with just a SUV. but like everyone else is saying. its on what fits you best not on what everyone else thinks.

I would go for the 4runner. Personally I want to trade my taco for one.
But I would try persuade her into keeping the taco, rather than getting an accord.
The way I see it, why get rid of some thing good that you already have. Plus the taco resale value is better than the accord, when you decide to sell it down the road.

Put the first coats of polish and wax on it today. The Taco is much easier to wash. Made it into the service menu on the navi system, nothing in there to disable the motion control lockout big brother crap. Need to figure out how to change the programming, there has to be a way. Not being able to have your passenger handle nav while you drive is ridiculous. There has to be a yota tech on here somewhere that can steer me in the right direction. I'm convinced programming code can be changed to eliminate this.

I'm still struggling with the decision. I really like the shorter wheelbase and can't wait to try out the KDSS. The runner handles beautifully on the road but so does the Tacoma.

    Im getting there......
Its hard man but I would go with the runner my mom looked at the limited variant and I would trade my taco for one any day if i didn't use the bed so frequently. If you don't hall big stuff (or stuff that'll ruin the interior) that often get a cheap trailer (say a 5x8 or a 5x10) and set it aside for work days. I don't think the 4runner would have any trouble with that.

No, she likes it but knows i like it more. she doesn't care for the Taco too much and never did, so if i take the runner, she would want something different as her DD, and 2 4runners doesn't make sense. She likes the small sedans and that would make sense. My only problem is giving up the taco for a runner, trying to figure out if it's what i really want to drive everyday or just occasionally.

    Always been that way.

I had the old Camry nav unit in my '03 Tundra.
It had a service menu option for bypassing the safety, but it had to be done every time the truck was restarted... there was no permanent bypass for it.

However, one thing the factory nav does better than aftermarket is navigate through poor coverage areas.
Aftermarket nav units rely only on the GPS signal for location. Move into a tunnel or parking garage and they drop out, or at best, the estimate your location based on last known speed and where the road is on the map.

The factory unit uses a stronger "dead reckoning" method combining an internal compass and the ECU's speed sensor signal.
It knows exactly how far you have gone, and what direction you have been going, so it will properly track turns through a parking garage.
Ya, it might be 100ft off when you exit.

Best I could tell from the way the unit acted when I attempted to bypass the safety by disconnecting the speed sensor input and grounding the parking brake input is that it would only poll the GPS system about once every 30 seconds or so.
I could start the truck, boot the nav, and I could drive for about 30 seconds before it would update location... as soon as it updated, it "realized" that I was in motion and it would lock the safety.

I was afraid of that. That's why I'm hoping that it can be fixed through progamming. I had a cell phone once that had certain features locked out because of the carrier. I was able to get some software, do a little studying, and ultimately change some ones and zero's in the preogramming code and unlock the features. This is the only way I would want to unlock the nav unit, that way everything else works exactly as it should. If I could figure out what software to use, how to connect it (USB?) to the laptop, and then figure out what chnges to make it could be done. Someone has to know. Just have to keep trying to find it, etc. It's gonna be tough.
