Hi guys, I first saw this thread back in may, and looked thru a few pages of it, and it helped motivate me to actually go to a gym and lift heavy objects. Im still a beginner, but im making definite progress and im gonna stick with it. In TW speak, im doing some overdue mods and upgrades on my stock model self. Anyhow, even tho yall didnt know, just wanted to say thanks for pushing me over the edge into action. :)

    :p

Those gloves are awesome! The Bionic brand, with padding at all the right pressure points. They are very grippy, I've repped out 345 on deadlift with those gloves and no lifting straps..

I don't feel like a pussy wearing gloves, I feel like a pussy wearing a support belt. If you've gotta wear a belt to support you body and stabilize your core, you're lifting more then you can handle!! Strengthen the core and support muscles then start lifting heavier. Nothing should ever replace a strong core. I mainly use gloves for hand protection instead of chalk as they are not as messy and reusable

When I'm messing around on the pull up bars at the park I wear some football style gloves for grip and they def keep the ripped callluses at a minimum!

2.5" lift, ARE Shell, Ducks Unlimited Rubber Floor Mats. ROGUE badges,
When I had a hand surgery my sophomore year in college I started using wraps and gloves.

About 6 months later I tried to clean without them and couldn't pull over 315 past my knees my grip got so weak.

I Haven't used them since and my grip and forearms have gotten a ton better. I usually go in to the high 4's on dead lifts and high 3's on shrugs now with no grip issues.

IMO gloves/ wraps/ knee wraps/ belts/ bench shirts have a place in the world. But if used more than once in a blue moon they create weak links in the body.

Gloves do have their place and it's all personal preference for sure. I don't do dead lifts, cleans, or anything of that sort so I'm always handling everything with my bare hands.

If your going to lift really heavy weight a belt is a must. It's pretty cheap insurance that could keep you walking.

I no longer use any of that stuff but I also don't allow myself to go over 5 plates on squats or dead lifts anymore. I only lift to stay healthy now. No need to hurt myself.

When I was still playing ball and lifting "heavy" I did use a belt, I also used wrist wraps maxing on cleans.

    That's fine.

I've never used a belt, and never will. I hold to my statement that you need a strong core and that if you can't lift something properly and with good form without a belt, don't lift it.

I typically use a belt to hold my pants up when I'm NOT at the gym.
