Saw this on craigslist last night. I think since you are just starting out that a project that was not taken apart by you would not be the best to start out with. The motor could have an unseen problem which you will not find until you try to start it (could be completely fine). I picked mine up in New Britain, CT for $1,800 and the guy put in 2 new C/V axels and patched a hole and painted it for me before I picked up the truck.

    '88, 4wd, 5 speed manual, 31x10.5's now (bought it with 235/75/15)

Found a guy selling his 94, a little rust but not as horrible as others I've looked at.

Says his dad is a mechanic and had two engines, and put the two better halves together to make a good one. It has a clunk sound to it now and they said they're looking into it.

These people are super good people, I know them and trust that they would never try and rip me off or anything but I don't know enough about these old engines to know if I should go through with this buy. He's still getting details from his dad for me but just wanted to know what you old school yota Pros thought of that engine scenario.

Also, how much rust is non-fixable? This one has a bit more than I would like to tackle but I may commit anyways and go to town with some Por 15 or something.

I didn't weigh them,,,but they are extremely light. Gained power from the original rims and small tires if you can believe that, also gained the obvious lower RPM's @ highway speeds...all FTW

Added Yakima tracks to the bed rails, ordered a set of control towers & landing pad's with cross bars. I will be installing a Kuat Vagabond basket, the control towers will quick release off for Dirt Bike transportation if needed. Will most likely add a RTT in the near future.

that fj looks like a fine contender for some full widths and some 40's.

Just picked this guy up last week. I'm taking delivery on it tomorrow or the next day since it was free. I finally found one worth the wait ;)

I've already got parts on order and in the mail :D

as you can see, 80,780 original miles on it, but needs new rear leafs soon so I'll be swapping in an OME lift whenever it gets here. Anyone know if I leave out one of the OL leaves how much less lift it will yield. I'm not looking for as much lift as it gives yet am getting OME shocks and t bars so I want to keep it in the family with their leaf pack. Think one less OL is the best bet to keep the height down?

there are just no stock height alternatives for me :(

That 1st gen. pickup looks like hell. You should donate it to me!

j/k. Both are beautiful rigs. No need to do anything to them (other than the donation thing if you want!).
