I have an REI pad (similar to a thermarest) and its pretty comfy. I'm a side sleeper and most pads would leave my shoulder and hip digging into the ground but this one does OK.
One word of advise...get the longest length you can...i have the 'regular' length and my toes tend to hang off the end. I'm 5'5

With any luck I will be staring at this view from camp tomorrow evening...(not my pic)

I'm heading out to drive over the Beartooth highway, camp at the top somewhere near Beartooth Lake and then head to Cody WY and into Yellowstone.

    car camping or backpacking?

    3 season or 4?

    size?

    weather conditions?

there is a ton to consider when tent buying.

Car camping. Mainly fall/winter. Roomy. I've got a marmot mummy style basically brand new but want something a little bigger to toss and turn in. Considering the browning mckinnly. Think I'm gonna go with the exped comfort foam 7 deluxe also. The McKinley is 36x90. I like the with but do not want one that long.

I've got a cheap tent from Walmart someone gave me but basically want a better quality 2 man style for under $200.

    [IMG][IMG][IMG] LUCKY!

You may already know what size you're going to get, but if it is a tent for just yourself I would spring for a two person tent. I've got a Kelty Crestone 1 and it fits me fine lengthwise and there are a few extra inches around my shoulders, but I would hate to be stuck in there for hours during a rain or snowstorm . The extra room afforded by a two man tent is worth the 4 to 5 ounce penalty in my opinion.

EDIT: Lol I had to leave my desk while I was typing out my response and came back two hours later and submitted, then refreshed and you said you wanted a two man tent. Anyway, maybe my opinion will help somebody else decide between a one or a two man tent!

    I know.

You can't go wrong with Kelty IMO. Simple design, minimal poles, fast set up and decent prices. I have a grand mesa 2. The only bad things about it are that the door is on the end, I think my next tent will have a side door and its a little short, if I stretch out while laying down my toes and head hit either end.

I'm already getting excited about a fall trip I am planning for myself and brother-in-law. It is a 25 mile loop with a day for fishing down Raven Fork Creek. Leaving on a Wednesday night and hiking/fishing through Sunday morning. Should be fun!

    Here's the loop:

    Here's it's location within SMNP:

My backyard. Almost makes dealing with the mosquitoes worth it.

Sounds like quite a trek! What's the elevation gain/loss there?
Welcome back stranger. Aaron and I have been trying to keep things together here without ya.
