Kinda hard to figure out why you're posting in this thread, although I'm sure this post will give you yet more one entry point. You're obviously a disgruntled Taco owner who prefers Nissan products. Why don't you get rid of your Taco (if you really own one) and go haunt their forums (if they exist)...

What is an Equator? A Suzuki or some shit? Colorado is a compact.

 

Equator is a rebadged Frontier.

Colorado is not a compact. S10, Nissan Hardbody are compacts.

 

Equator is still a Suzuki... I haven't see any Suzukis since I can remember.

And the Colorado, like the Ranger, are compacts. Go park a Tacoma next to one.

Even GM admits it's a compact and no-one wants Compacts anymore. Next Gen will be a midsize. Regardless, Sales =/ Better.

F150 outsells the Tacoma... so CLEARLY it's better, regardless of size.

If I was to summarize both trucks.

Looks

Toyota > Nissan.
Nissan is a bit more modern looking, but it still looks funky.

Interior

Toyota > Nissan
The Tacoma displays Toyotas continued tread to cheapen its build quality, but it's still better than Nissan.

Engines
Toyota = Nissan
The VQ makes more power and is a proven motor, however it also consumes more fuel. The 1GR has been packaged nicer and is more friendly at the pump.

Drive Train

Nissan > Toyota
The fucking hanging tranfercase pisses me off more than C-rails and everything else. It is pure engineering laziness. I've NEVER been a fan of the rear-cases on Toyotas (no diff covers) but they have proven themselves regardless.

Safety

Nissan > Toyota
Nissan scores higher in all tests and have an acceptable roof collapse rating. Tacoma does not. Shame on Yota.

Cost

Toyota = Nissan
The Nissan costs less but depreciates faster.. its more or less a wash at that point. Pay more upfront, but get more back latter.

Beds

Toyota = Nissan
Toyota has a plastic bed, huge plus in my book. The Nissan has better tie downs, something Toyota could have easily implemented after 7 years of production.

Frames

Nissan > Toyota
The Argument is always "C rails are as good as..." never "boxed is almost as good as...". This was clearly a cost cutting measure by Toyota, if it wasn't, then why did they not use C-rails on their global work horse the Hilux, or the FJ-Cruiser, LandCruiser, Prado ect?


In the end, I personally should have took a serious look at the Frontier, however exterior and interior styling as well as the rats nest of an engine bay would most likely chased me off.

The point is Toyota cut corners and cheapened out regardless of what Fanbois think and I seriously hope Toyota steps up next time around. Nissan clearly has been making improvements and I'm willing to bet the Next Gen will be a much fiercer rival.

It's a pretty well known issue that the awesome boxed frame they have, has enough flex in it to allow the bed to come in contact with the cab when off roading. Can't believe with the amount of info you think you know about the Frontiers, that you didn't know the equator is just a rebadged version. They are even made in the same factory

I'm sure you have never driven off-road in your Taco, other wise you'd see how much that bed jumps around, no onder Toyota put a 5" gap between the bed and cap.

Honestly my comments maybe argumentative or subjective, but their rooted in factual evidence.

Unless you feel like countering the fact that the VQ makes more power, gets worse gas mileage, or the safety testing results of the two trucks. Cause clearly those can not be quantified or supported. Same goes for cost and resale too... right, its pure opinion that the Toyota has stronger residuale or that the Frontier has a lower MSRP per option.

I dig the fact that my 01 taco has a box frame, or welded C frame, or whatever it is. Also the fact that that I'm nearly at 300,000 on a stock truck. I root Toyota any day.

that being said, the tacoma will bend the frontier over and spank it right directly on the thin skin of the ass anytime. thats factual evidence brah.

 

As far as fuel consumption my Frontier king cab got worse then my Tacoma DC. Consistently hit 18 mpg in the Nissan, where I get 20 mpg pretty easy with the Tacoma. Both trucks v6 & 4x4.

 

Nissan reliability these days is junk. That's all I have to add.

 

If you compare specs of 4 door Colorado and DC Tacoma. Tacoma has 1.4 inch longer wheelbase and approximately 3.4 inch wider track. Interior rooms is nearly identical per MSN autos.

Where as compare to an old Nissan Hardbody and the wheelbase is over 20 inches longer for the Tacoma. That is a compact!

 

The warranty on that is 80,000. It didn't affect all the Frontiers (just a couple of years) and at least the Frontier frames don't rust out

 

If I remember correctly on ClubFrontier, there were '05 through '09 that had trouble with the cross contamination. I don't recall any '10s. I am curious why it took 4 years to correct the issue.
