ECGS says 85-140 Lucas. They say mobil 1 does just as well a job of protecting the gears, but no better and it costs more. Their opinion is that dino gear oils are well refined enough now that synthetic in that application is a waste.

I plan to stick with their recommendation. The only thing they say to stay way away from is Royal Purple.

 

Only web wheelers don't get stuck enough(or wheel with those that do) to have a permanent winch set up

On a serious note, what was wrong with your Kings? I've been out of the loop.

 

Pick a good line I prefer wheeling to winching.

Nothing. I'm replacing the 650lb coils on my Icons with 700lb King coils.

Oh I thought you had king shocks a while ago, never mind.

 

Welp, got with Dbronzo yesterday and swapped the coilsprings and leaf packs out.

Lesson learned: Don't use shitty auto-parts store u-bolts. I found out upon reinstall their washers did not have sufficient clearance to fully lock on the flip kit plate. This caused the ubolt heads to twist upon torqueing. I didn't have any choice, so I drove it home, albeit a bit worried.

Went to Fastenal and picked up some hardened zinc plated shit and grade 8 washers to ensure the problem did not re-cur. Spent this morning re-doing the U-bolts and all is well now...



Ass end is now about 41" ground to fender on a 33" tire. Hub to fender is 25". These Icon shocks are gonna have to go...they don't have enough travel to wheel this setup.

Also, color matched coils yo! With the King 700lb coils, MUCH less preload needed. I got to 3.5" front lift with less than an inch of preload passenger side, and just over an inch driver side.

 

What are you thinking for the rear shocks now?

 

Suspension travel will be measured after another mod takes place later this month

At that time, needed compressed/extended lengths will be known and I'll start shock shopping.

Ideally I'll find something that fits my application in a 2.5" Remote Resi flavor; that would be ideal...Icon is out, that I know, so likely Fox or King.

I only have a stock non-tsb leaf pack with a wheelers 3-leaf AAL though...

Are you satisfied with the icons up front? You do the type of wheeling that I plan to, wondering how they perform crawling. Debating icons and kings

 

I was working with a TSB pack with 2" wheeler's AAL. Those stock Toyota leafs went out quick. When I originally lifted I was thinking "I have perfectly good leaf springs now. Might as well use 'em."

If I'd known they'd crap out so quickly, I'd have just gone to the Dakars then.

If you armor the front, do what I did and put some King 700lb coils on the Icon C/Os. I like Icon's digressive valving better than King and Fox's progressive valving. That's a taste thing though. Everyone feels a little differently about it.

If you're not going full skids, sliders, bumper, the 650lb springs that come with the Icons are fine. They'll technically work with all the armor (I ran that way for a year) but you'll have them preloaded to max, and I wouldn't try it with a winch living in your bumper as well.

Appreciate it Derek. Electrical hell is next...if I feel like it later today I may install the sPOD and start cutting up the interior for switch mounts. Got a compressor and some driving lights waiting for wiring...It's like 1,000,000 degrees F out there right now though; I'm hiding in air conditioning.

You can get Icon to make you a custom shock length when you get your measurements. Call either Icon or Marco. Mine are like 27.25/18.
