I had to take my truck in today to have some warranty work done and instead of sitting around the service lounge, I strolled out onto the lot. Setting on the lot was a black TX double cab and after looking it over for a while, the salesman came out. I decided what the hell, Ill take it for a spin. I shouldn't have. It was a blast to drive. I just don't like 39K sticker............

Better off buying an SR5 and modding it. You get a lot more truck for the same amount of money. Baja package is mostly an appearance thing.

How can you say its an appearance thing? Thats like saying buying bilstien 5100's is nothing more than appearance, and buying an exhaust system is an appearance thing. Yeah putting a leveling kit and rims on a truck is appearance but i bet over 50% of the people on here have done it if not more. Tires are not all about looks they are for performance too.

Its a completely different suspension, exhuast. Yeah, its got graphics, and wheels, but no different than a TRD package truck.

Combine them with armor, tires, traction aids and then we're talking. (Gears would be nice too) Until then, your extra 10 grand or so buys you the ability to negotiate slightly more rutted dirt roads.

I would argue the TRD OffRoad offers significant off-the-showroom performance differences in the form of the locker, traction control, hill descent systems. Yes, the TRD packages still need a lot of modification to get capable, I agree with you 100% there. Compared to a stock Rubicon pretty much all the stock TRD packages look silly.

    Exhaust is an appearance item.

Most people buy it on sound and tip look. Thats appearance. You will not net significant performance numbers from an exhaust on a N/A modern engine.

Could you not just buy a set of Coilovers and Exhaust and be done?

I've heard it's a 2" lift in the front with Bilstein shocks. Are they they same Bilsteins found on the O/R with longer springs? Are they 5100s? It doesn't sound like anything in the rear changed.

    Different Bilsteins.

It's basically a 2" lift with ATs and graphics. Not a lot to write home about, though the non-modder group'll love it (at least, until everyone has one that is).

I think it has the billy 5160 reservoir shocks out back. But same deal, just use the extra money you have after you buy a TRD OR and you will have about $6,000 to blow on whatever you want. Kings F/R, Leaf Pack, New Bumpstops, UCAs, Armor, etc.

I'd argue (now that I know the e-locker rear end's issues) to go SR5, and spend the extra 11k on all that and some ARB lockers.

Yeah I mean either way works out better than blowing $35,000 - $38,000 on a barely modified truck from the dealership

The steering was a lot tighter and the ride was a little more rigid but other than that, not much difference. Because I buy Toyotas through the TMMK purchase plan, I know I could get it for right around 34.5K but I think Ill keep mine and mod it myself. I do want the wheels though!

I just bought a 2010 TRD Sport. Love it. Don't miss my ford one bit, however when I was on the lot the other day I too noticed the tx. It looks pretty rugged, at least more so than my stock truck. I'm not a serious off roader so I'm not looking to upgrade for performance, but I'd like to have that more rugged look without losing the nice drive i have, fuel mileage i get, and reliability. Can I just purchase those bilstein shocks and get that same rugged look? Thanks.

I have the factory locker on my '06 TRD Offroad. I've never read/heard about issues with it, nor have I ever had any with mine. (I admittedly don't use it that much, however.) Please enlighten me on e-locker problems!
