    It's a day in each. Gotta love "work" sometimes. The best part about working on a flying gas pump is that I fly the gas TO the jet, not the jet to the gas.

    lol, that is pretty kick ass I gotta admit, but why is the jet staying in midair?? I don't see why (besides the occasional surveillance planes) that any jet would need to stay airborne 24/7. And wouldn't those pilots need to come down to break and sleep??? :notsure:

    They don't stay up for 24/7. It is just that fighters can not make it over the ocean on one tank of gas. We have to fill them once, maybe twice to get them to hawaii. We do a lot of this little stuff a few times a year since we can't just leave certain aircraft in a deployed location for a full year. Wear and tear can get to them, so we bring them back to the US to put them through major maintenance.

    Yep. But, there are some jets that stay up in the air for 24 hours. Most are recon/airborne command centers which it is easier for a 24hr trip than trying to get multiple up throughout the day. They keep 3 aircrews on board plus a whole bunch of people in the back. Also, some bombers stay up for 20+ hours such as the B-2 and the B-52.
