Scangauge II

What can someone tell me about the scangauge II? How does it work? Are there limitations.

I have seen it advertized. When I contacted the company for compatibility with 2008 DB, they said it was no good. Yet I see it advertized on this site.

Scangauge should be able to do everything on an 08 that it can do on an 07. Which includes, but is not limited to...

• Instant Horsepower reading
• Intake Temp
• Coolant temp
• Average Fuel economy
• Instant fuel economy
• Volt meter
• Distance to empty
• Check and Clear engine codes
• ANd a whole bunch more stuff that I am forgetting right now.

It's a really cool device.

I think the best thing about it - is it'll read and reset trouble codes. That alone is worth the $$ to buy it.

Not that my truck will need it anytime soon, but I have 3 other vehicles in the stable that could possibly need the code reader someday (knock on wood).

 

How much is it ? difficult install ?

Or you could be lazy and just velcro it somewhere handy and plug it in, but our Tacomas deserve better than that don't they.

 

I got mine for $149.99 group buy that doesn't exist anymore.

I put mine ontop the steering column. I like it right there so I can watch the gauges without moving my eyes too far from the road.



It simple to install. Simply hook it into the OBD port and run the wires to the Scangauge unit. Plug & play. I've got 07 - and the OBD port it located inside the cab just underneath the lip of the dash on the left side of the steering wheel.

 

Janster, love that look, and the ease of the install, I am going to look to see if someone sells them locally.

 

I put mine there for a couple days before installing it over the mirror. I have the wheel set all the way up and the scangauge was blocking the odometer and whatever dummy lights that are below it.

 

Roland, good to know, I might want to think of that also.

 

I got one during the group buy and I love this thing. It took a couple of weeks to properly calibrate the gasoline fill up. Once done though man is it accurate in the trip meter department. I filled up yesterday and went to set the meter that I had filled up. Here is where you can adjust the gallons to what you put in it. If you calibrate it as the instructions suggest that sucker gets very accurate. It was within a half of a tenth of a gallon of the actual gasoline used!

I installed mine right in front of the gauges with the supplied velcro and it works great there and I can see everything except the very lower warning lights. Using the factory color of Amber, the SG blends rather well with the factory gauges. Here's a shot of it at night.

EDIT: I contacted Linear-Logic about out of warranty repairs. They told me that they ususlly just repair them for free even after the warranty, just pay the shipping. It doesn't get much better than that for a product and service.

 

I'm sold, going to look today.

 

I'm hoping they can hook up with Toyota and get the transmission temps & oil pressure codes soon!

 

thought I'd revive this old thread instead of starting a new one.

i installed my scangauge....

I decided the center console was the best spot...some may say not in line of sight, but that's actually better for me...i have a habit of staring at the damn thing.

drilled the hole and ran the wire...once i find a suitable grommet that will clean up the hole, but it's hidden anyway. I would recommend at 5/8" hole to clear the cable. I had to file the hole a bit because I used a 1/2".

 

Has anyone else used to droid app "Torque?" I absolutely love it! it uses a bluetooth obd2 scanner that you can pick up on ebay for around thirty dollars, although getting a name brand scanner supposedly works better.
It does everything from calculated horse power, MPG, Speed (truck input and gps.) It scans fault codes even looks them up on the net for more details. and tons of other useful info. its pretty slick and if you go with an inexpensive scanner you will only be into it around $40.

 

It will plug in and work with any OBDII connector. I have it in my 08. It will save you $ if you do your own work. My brother in law used it to read codes, fix his Ford and clear the code - so all it cost him was for the part.
