I went up to Breckenridge area for the 4th. overnighted in a motel then went in to Georgetown. great old mining town and they had a great small town parade. Then went over Guanella pass into Grants. From there i went up to Slaughterhouse Gulch. A really fun old 4x4 trail. I need to post some pictures.

morning all: not retired military, and also getting lots of junk mail. Must be money in this since so many people are contacting us.

    evening all:
OK. this is the deal! I THINK!
AARP, plan-F > $124.00 mo.- at open enrollment, and monthly bank transfer of premium.
BCBS, plan-F > $164.38 mo.- at open enrollment.
($484.56 more for BCBS, per yr.)
BUT: the AARP plan is at a 30% discount that is added back on at 3% a yr., for 10 yrs. in addition to any rate increases. (told that by 2 different people that were contacted)

United health is the insurance co. used by the AARP plan.

AARP may be antigun, but looks like they're going to be contributing to my ammo and gun fund. :D!
THIS COULD ALL CHANGE WHEN "THE PLAN" KICKS IN! :notsure:
pretty sure I got this right; been doing a lot of homework!

    Morning, Jim! Everyone!

Lots to do this weekend. Assemble the gun bench, dig the holes for the leg stands and pour the concrete, cut grass, cut up the tree limb that feel next to the driveway.......

Well, didn't get everything accomplished I'd wanted to today - had several hefty thunderstorms during the afternoon. But, my son and I did get the shooting bench built. Pretty happy with it - I'm certainly no woodworking expert.

Need to put some stain on it tomorrow and then take it to the shooting area so I can mark the leg locations and pour the concrete pads.

All in all, a good day!

    Here's a few pics.

Morning, everyone! It's Monday - back to work for me.

Cool! Taking those first few shots with a new rifle is always fun! :)

I'm assembling the parts I need for my current restoration project. I'm working on a restoration of a Soviet 1942 Izhevsk sniper rifle. After WWII, many of the sniper rifles were converted back to standard infantry M91/30s and put in storage. Those rifles are now often found among the many being imported from Ukraine now. I have the correct mounting rail, and found an actual 1942 PU scope- pretty rare since production of the PU scopes didn't begin until later in '42. The actual mounts are tough to come by, too, so in the interim I have a repro on the way.

Once I have all the parts, I'll ship it off to the gunsmith who specializes in these restorations to re-tap the rail holes in the receiver.

Now that I have the gun bench done, I can use it to sight in the sniper once it's finished. :)

Yes, it is. I have 5 Mosin Nagant M91/30s in my collection, 1 MN M44 and a Finnish M39 now. One is a repro sniper built off a '37 Izhevsk with a reproduction mount and scope made in the same factory as the originals. One is the ex-sniper I'm restoring and the others are normal infantry rifles. I have a bunch of 7.62X54r ammo - it is cheap and easy to find.

I also have a copy of Enemy at the Gates. There are two great books - one by Zaitsev who is the sniper portrayed in the movie, and the other is written by a German sniper who also served on the Eastern Front. The books provide interesting, and very differing views on their counterparts.
