Billies 5100's front set to 1.75 plus 1/4 taco lean spacer. Rears Billies plus AAL for a 2" leaf. 265/75/16 BGF's. Double din Kenwood stereo w/bluetooth and steering wheel controls and JBL speakers front & rear. Heavy duty battery. Billet grill blacked out. K&N air filter and MBRP cat-back. Just tuned it up new plugs and new front brake pads. Steel powered coated tailgate cap. Billet Grill painted black & factory roof racks. Oh new head lights thanks to toyota.
I'm thinking of buying four new 265/75/16 A/T tires, but the guys at Tire Rack told me that the 75's would sway on the open road. And the 265/70/16 would give me a much better ride. Is that true?? would .05 bigger side wall make that much of a difference?
    thanks

You wont notice it that much. The type of tire and its tread will have a much bigger effect that such a slight difference in sidewall size.

My calculations say 13.25 MM difference which is 0.5 (1/2 inch) not 0.05

I trust the TireRack guys it doesn't help them to lie to you...

I just put 275/70-17 AT2's on my truck and the ride is exactly the same as the stock tires.

The half inch difference in sidewall height is going to have a lot less to do with a different ride than other factors such as tread pattern, load rating (ply), weight, etc. . .

Well, seeing as how Toyota does offer a 75mm sidewall on the base and sr5 trim models, I don't see there being any trouble at all, and the ride quality wont differ at all.. I mean, I have p245/75/16's on my truck, witch is a base Tacoma, and just put some bfg all terrain T/A's of the same size on it, replacing the factory Dunlop's and I noticed the ride was better just because the BFG's are a 10 ply tire, so the sidewall is significantly stiffer than the dunlops in a good way tho, but the type of tread u are after will have more of a profound effect on ride quality over just increasing the tire sidewall slightly , hope this helps :)

the 75 is the percentage of the width. it's not the direct measurement of the height per se.

    your sidewall roughly = 7.23 (245/25.4)*.75
the size he wants = about 7.82 (265/25.4)*.75

Not a big diff. Go for whatever looks best. May get a little rubbing with 265/75's but nothing major depending on wheels. I'd recommend avoiding E load tires and going with C's to minimize mpg loss.

Tread makes the biggest difference, as others have said. I'm on my second set of 265/75/16's and the difference between the tread type is definitely what has the differing ride quality. I went from Firestone Destination at's to GY Duratracs and it's more "floaty" now. Not bad, just something you get used to.

I have just recently bought a 05 trd sport with a 3" lift 285 70 17 terra on stock rim they rub on the a arm pretty good. Was gona order a set of 17" xD addicts but I do not know what off set or back space to get to keep me from rubbing. I'm gona put some bushwhackers on also to keep the rock pecks down to a min. I would appreciate any helpful info. Rims are 17x9

Is that answer for the OP, who's relatively new, or the post above yours, who's very new?

    No, it is not true.
Every kind of tires rides differently. Some differences are so small though. I have had five sets of tires on my tacoma and each set road totally different. I would stay away from D and E range tires unless you tow or carry large loads.
In many cases the larger 265/75/16's will get you closer to actual speed/odometer readings.

I was told my truck would handle and ride horribly when I put 235/85r16s on my '06. Thankfully, I knew better than to believe them. Sure, I won't be keeping BMWs in my dust on windy roads, but they won't keep up in deep snow.
