I have seen them from high on the benches and up on the north side of the point of the mountain and you would be suprised how small a "big" fireworks show looks from that distance. For me it was pretty uninspiring after about 10 seconds.

Im not trying to smash the idea... just sharing what I saw in a similar scenario.

That's what I was thinking..I'd be able to see them all, but it would be the same as watching it on my phone.

Wife wanted to check out a road in the Taco before taking our Motorcycles, she's now getting into dirt roads. There's a stretch from Eden ( Pineview Reservoir ) heading North to Logan. The first 2 1/2 miles were nice and steep considering we will take out bikes one day, soft dirt in the hairpin turns, almost sand like. There was a Traffic Survey vehicle, hope he decides the road needs to stay maintained.
In all the dirt road was about 11 miles, took me 40 minutes, stiff suspension does not make a smooth ride
At the top some good ol boys were shooting, that's when the wife told me to step on it, bullets bouncing off of boulders are not what we came up here for.
There were other roads to take once over the top, but that will be for another ride. We did get Lottery Tickets, when did Idaho double the price:confused:

Anyone near the Ogden-Salt Lake area that knows how to wire up some lights? I got a pair of lights that came when I bought my Yakima basket. It doesn't have any wiring. I have no idea what I need to buy in order to get them to work or even how to wire em up on my truck.

    Here's the lights:

I got that impression from when I met him. He has lots of lights set up on his, and they're done well.

    Lights are actually pretty simple.

The easiest thing I do when thinking about wiring lights with a relay is think about it as two completely different circuits. One circuit is to control the lights and one is to control the relay.

So, you basically just wire up the lights to the battery, going through a relay as the "switch" that turns them on/off. Not sure on the power of your lights, but you cant ever go wrong with 12ga wire for the main light power. It will be overkill though, and you could probably get away with thinner. I think most light kits come with 16ga wire. Make sure you fuse it as well.

So, this circuit will go Battery->wire->Fuse->Wire->Relay in-> relay out-> wire-> lights. The other connector on the lights goes to the ground (frame, etc).

Then next, you wire up the power for the relay. Pretty much the same thing, except instead of going from the battery (unless you want to allow them to be on at any time), go from a fuse that is only powered with the ignition on. Same general setup.
power source -> wire-> fuse-> wire-> switch in-> switch out-> relay. Then the other half of the relay gets grounded. this can be a much thinner wire, as all it does is power a magnet in the relay. 18ga is plenty and about as small as you can really find easily. Some switches also have an LED, which is just another ground.

As far as how to wire the relay itself, there are many different types of relays, but they all have something in common. You have the high amp side and the low amp side. The low amp side just powers a magnet and the high amp side needs to handle all the current going to the lights.

Its all pretty simple once you think about how electricity and DC works. Also, sometimes it cant hurt to do some testing pre-mounting to make sure everything is going to work as expected before getting it all in place and finding a mistake.

Here's a simple diagram using a bosch relay (one of the most common). Indicator can either be separate, combined in the switch, or left out all together.

I read that entire post. It helped me sort of understand the process a little bit. I'm still not soaking it in and probably will always have a hard time doing so :p maybe someone can do it for me sometime. I also have no idea what these lights look like when lit :notsure:

    Thanks man!

As far as equipment goes... If you've never done it before, it depends on how much you've dealt with DC and understand how it works to know if you should do it yourself or not.

    Minimum equipment:
    Wire strippers
    Wire loom
    Wire (12-14ga) - 2 colors
    Wire (18ga) - 2 colors
Wire ends/connectors for both sizes of wire
    Relay
    Inline fuse
    Fuse Tap
    Switch
    Electrical Tape

Some other things to think about, depending on fuse, relay, what type of wire connectors you get, etc is Soldering Iron, Solder, Heat Shrink Tubing.

First thing, do the lights have a mounting bracket? The pic doesn't seem to have one.

Second, I couldn't quite tell the connectors on the back of the lights. There should be something there that is a definite power connection, and a second connection that would be for the ground, possibly connected to that plate. To test the light, all you have to do is connect one wire to power and another to ground and hook up to your battery.

We should probably have a simple mod day one of these days. Not sure where we could do it though. Anyone have the space to host it?

They've got mounting brackets on the side. One on each side of each light.

EDIT: I'd be down for a mini mod day :D
