Yeah I'm gonna restore them.... again.

The $20 or so on rattle cans is more than I want to spend on this POS front end.

    Thanks for the compliments

    Delayed.

This is my only vehicle and I'm a single dad with 100% custody.

    Timing is difficult.

I want to do all four, or at least two, at a time... but it might just come to be to do one at a time with a rotating spare.

Definitely will get it done this summer though.

That's cool. Wha does your kid think of this project? My twin 5 year old girls love riding in my truck. The boy does not care since he is 9 months old.

    She loves it.

She wants it to be hers one day. She loves 4wheeling in it.

She helps wash it all the time.. and I'll let her bolt something on too.

Won't let her get near all the painting and dyeing though... too nasty.

Gonna restore them again. Still have the kit. Just need to clear coat them at the end this time.

    Too bad you're not local.

It's been triple digits for 3 days straight now... and going to be for another two for sure, and probably 3 more days.

Cleaned the MAF, throttle body, replaced the throttle body gasket, changed the spark plugs, changed the spark plug wires and tightened up my throttle cable. I didn't spend a crazy amount of time on the throttle body... my OCD would have had me cleaning it for 6 hours...

It must run like a champ now!

He purrs like a kitten and roars like a lion

It feels great. And honestly there was so much slack in my throttle cable that the tightening of it is probably what I feel most.

    Anyone have insight into this?

The spark plug boots on the driver's side seem very rudimentary in the way they sit on the valve cover. I mean all I did was put a little bead of dielectric grease on the underneath/bottom of the boot and push the spark plug boot as far as it would go down onto the plug. The flange of the boot is literally just sitting on top of the valve cover.

Is this enough to make it water tight? Before I put everything back together I made sure I pushed everything into place as best I could.

Gotta say, drove it into town and the throttle response is day and night.

It's probably a combination of everything I did (Capt. Obvious) but the tightening of the throttle cable is probably the biggest factor.

I normally drive like an old lady, but feeding onto 45 or 50 mph roads I went WOT and Ol' Red was like an ole man all hopped up on viagra.

Hey madjik- I have one more shift boot/shift knob/center console question... Ok maybe two.. How did the dye turn out on the transfer case knob and could I also do the same for the shift knob?

Yes to both. I did both (even though I replaced my transmission knob with a TRD one - for extra horsepower).

They both came out perfectly - like they came from the factory that way.

Truly that dye will work perfectly on any vinyl parts, or vinyl like parts. It's even holding up fine on hard plastic parts even though it's not meant for it.

Post #17 has a picture of my transfer case knob when it was dyed glossy black. It was too shiny for me so I hit it up with a couple light coats of flat black. It can be seen in post #67 as it is now.
