synthetic oil chenges 2.7L

    undercover canopy, K&N intake, 1.5in aal, 1in diff drop doug thorley headers, total chaos upper control arms, debadged, fog lights, Nokya Arctic Yellow fogs, 25% tint, isimple aux, kings remote reservoir,
    Now hearing that the new 2012 tacos 2.7L come with fully synthetic oil, with this change does this mean that the 07's can change the oil at every 5k with fully syntheti? I'm currently running castrol high mileage and changing every 3k miles at 109k onthe motor. What are the pros and cons about this?

    Damn, 3k is kinda excessive for a modern non-turbo charged engine even with dino.
    Swapping over to a synthetic and doing 5k is no problem at all.
    I'm doing this now on my 04 with 139k on it

    What about the life of the motor and gas milage?

    The engine hasn't changed since 2005. The only reason for the 2012's requiring synthetic oil is because they switched to recommending the use of 0W-20 viscosity oil. The switch to lighter weight oil is for gas mileage purposes ONLY, and helps Toyota meet their fleetwide fuel efficiency goals/requirements. Because regular

    0W-20 oil breaks down more easily in heat, Toyota wants customers to use synthetic because it's more robust.

    My 2006 (again, same engine) owner's manual recommends 5W-30 dino with 5,000 mile change interval. I would say that it's logical to assume that you'd be completely fine switching to synthetic and doing a 5,000 mile interval. In my opinion, you should stick with 5W-30 though.

    Toyota Reccomends 5w-20 or 0w-20 for the 2.7L 2TR-FE

    the 1GR uses 5w-30.

    Well they must have made some changes to the owner's manuals since 2006 because mine doesn't differentiate between the two engines with regard to oil viscosity. 5W-30 is recommended across the board . . . I'm looking at Pg. 361 and Pg. 396 of my owner's manual right now.

    yeah, it says 5w30 on my oil cap on my 05. i wanna say it was 07 when it switched to 5w20? maybe 08?

    do your oil caps say just 5W-30?

    mine says both 5W-20 and 0W-20.

    Yeah, mine says 0-20 & 5-20. Have run both with no difference in mpg. Always run 5k using full syn with toyota filters. No issues.

    yeah x2 i started using 0W but it was getting irrtating to find it so i switched back to 5w20.

    Yeah, that and they want 9.00 a qt for any 0-20 you can find and there are not any 5 qt with a filter sales on 0-20. So 45.00 just for 0-20 syn or 27.00 for 5-20 Penzoil platinum with a filter. I just get a filter for one of the other vehicles & use the toyota filter with the 27.00 sale oil.

    There will be no difference in MPG between those oils because they are the same weight. 20 weight.
