Toyota told me because of where I live, I didn't want the long bed, and I didn't want it in blue, either. Tried to move to Alberta so I would want it, but my wife said no.

    Truth is...

if I was going to stay in the contracting/home building business...I'd have to seriously think about another full size truck. And Tundra would be among the considerations.

And, if I really wanted to continue driving and working out of a Tacoma...in the business, a long bed would no doubt be the wiser option. If for no other reason, you can have a tool box and still have some bed left to haul materials & tools in.

But...since I have zero desire to continue contracting, the short bed suits my needs just fine.

True story...well, for the blue, anyway. Because I wanted a 6 speed DC, I couldn't get the long bed (this might be a Canada thing...heck, maybe it's all of them, but I don't think so). But when I said I wanted blue, I was told I could only have the 6 speed, I was told I could only get black, red or white. When I pushed they said they would talk to Toyota aboutreleasing one from Alberta, and it'd be 14 weeks. A little research, and what I found out was this is a standard thing, where Toyota decides certain vehicle options are for certain regions. A dealer puts in a request, and if enough dealers request enough vehicles with those options, Toyota may decide to send them. Or, at the end of 12 weeks, they may say, "Nah, you still don't want a blue manual." Likewise, they have to have special permission from Toyota to send to another dealership in a different area, and it often gets declined. After reading source after source on the internet about this, I went with black. I then confirmed what I found out with the dealer, who reluctantly admitted it was true.

I fish from a boat and bank as well and my rods are mostly 7' so a short bed is useless for what I do. A 7' rod will fit perfect on the angle in a 6' bed.

No doubt! I just put a cap on my DCLB and holy Hell does that make it look even longer, but I can sleep high and dry in the back if I need it

I was more cheesed off I couldn't get the colour I wanted. And I thought it was just Canada you can't get the LB in manual, but regardless, I don't get the reasoning. Meh, still hauls more stuff than the Mustang I traded in. I'm going to assume it's better in the snow than the lowered Pony, too.

I am so used to people yelling "holy hell that thing is long" all the time, I figured my truck may as well be long too

My wife has decided to play a new driving game where she yells out "short bed pussy!" every time we pass one. I will admit that after seeing so damn many of them on this site all the time, even access cabs are starting to look off. Also, I wish the build threads were more clearly labeled as to who is FTMFW and who is a SBP.

Long story (that I'll explain if I ever get around to putting the pictures up of my truck), but they delivered mine to my house on a flat bed. There were NO manuals around when I was test driving, so I hadn't seen any DCSBs when I bought mine. I remember looking at it pulling up, and thinking, "That's not a bed, that's a trunk missing it's lid!"

Yeah , too bad you were forced to get the short bed , but when you trade it in eventually you can correct your mistake by getting a longbed :)

Love my short box, but if I had to move a lot of stuff more often the long bed would be much better.
