    Hey Y'all,

I'm looking at the Kenwood DDX712 and was wondering if anyone has one or has any thoughts on it. It seems it is just like the Kenwood DNX8120, but less the NAV and Bluetooth. The good thing is that it can be upgraded at a later time.

I found the DNX8120 for $1059 and the DDX712 for $540. I just can't swallow a unit over $1000 right now, and I really don't need the NAV or Bluetooth. I just want something that can play videos and has an exceptional iPod interface.

I know I'm probably going to get some reponses to just suck it up and get the 8120 for all the features...besides "it's only $500 more." :D

    Thanks!

i got the 712 yesterday. So I'm sold. Actually from what my friend told me at the stereo shop, there is an audible difference between the two head units. but he said it may not be worth the price jump.

I installed my DDX712 the other day and I love it! Just got my iPod cable and am putting it in right now. I got mine for $524 off sonicelectronix.com Great site and great prices! Love the HU, only difference is exactly what you said, no NAV or Bluetooth but everything else is almost identical. :D

I finally bought the DDX812 (like the 712 but has Bluetooth) several months ago and installed it using the scosche adapter thing to use the JBL sub. I have this problem where the right side of the speaker set up cuts in and out on bumps. It never used to do this, so I probably have something loose in there or there is something wrong with that adapter thing.

I plan on getting the 5120 or the 8120... Not sure which right now. I want the Bluetooth and the Nav.... THEN come the speakers... :)

I've been hooking up the wiring for my Kenwood, and have a question. When you put together the face plate, did you guys glue the side pieces in place before screwing it to the HU? or the other way?

I am guessing that you are reffering to the plastic parts of the mounting bracket. If that is the case, then no gluing needs to be done. If you ever have an issue with the HU, want to sell it, or just put in a different HU then you will have the brackets to do so. If you glue them then you are not not going to be able to take it apart. There are no rattling issues if you screw it down securely.

thanks sooner, i was just getting frustrated with the plastic parts seperating before i get the hu in the damn thing. Another question i have is the alignment of the kenwood hu. do you slide it all the way to the front or the back? (on the "new face plate")

Do any of you use sirius with the 712? Is the only thing I need for Sirius the sc-c1? I hope so because I am already using it on the factory adapter.

Ok Rippin and 808trdsport, got a couple of questions for you guys.

I'm considering getting the same setup, but I've noticed that when a screen is tilted back in (towards the console), there is a significant amount of glare that is cast onto the screen, making it difficult to see the screen.

Does this unit have the ability to tilt downward (towards the seats) and maintain this position so that glare from the windshield is reduced or not on the screen?

I've noticed other units that have the screen slide out and rotate up seem to have this feature where they can lock into a tilted position, so that glare from the windshield is reduced.......

    Thanks for you all's input.
