i am so down. I wish that show was in Ca when they did it.

 

14" 700lb springs will work. What DSMS means is, to make 14" springs even fit on your current coilovers, you have to compress them 2" to have the springs squeeze between the lower spring plate and upper retainer. Even though there is no preload cranked on the shocks, the spring itself is compressed. Reason is:
The shocks for our tacos have a rod spacer and raised spring plate that take up a lot of space between the spring plates.

does that make for a shitty, or harsh ride ? Thinking if I buy new coilovers maybe this is the route I should go since my front is pretty heavy ?

 

700lb springs will give you a shitty hard ride no matter the preload cuz its stiff as hell.

I had to compress Jen's 14" 600lb springs an inch to make them fit and they are smooth as hell

Interesting, maybe I just need to crank them up more for now because I feel like they are lower than the rear, and if i add a ton of weight eventually maybe crank them up more haha I dunno I was just trying to think ahead

if you crank them too much, you will lose spring travel.

Springs, just like shocks, have a travel. That travel is the difference in length between regular spring height with no load and "block" height, which is when you compress the springs all the way down until all the coils are touching and it cant go down anymore.

When you crank down preload, you are making the spring shorter without compressing the shocks, so it takes less shock compression to bottom out the springs.

There is a point where you can crank the springs down so much that the springs bottom out before the shocks, and that is no bueno. What you need to do is:
- Figure out the block height of your springs by calling the manufacturer.
- Subtract the block height from the overall length of the springs. That is your spring travel number.
- Figure out how many inches you have already cranked that spring down.
- The difference of those two numbers should be more than the length of shock shaft is showing
