Taking a trip to Nashville.

Well my buddy and I have been talking about a min road trip in the next few weeks and on another forum I came across the Southeastern Truck Nationals. So long story short will be in Nashville from Wednesday the 18th to Sunday the 22nd. The show is Saturday so we have the other days to check out Nashville, which we both have never been too.

I'm pretty excited and have been looking up things to do and places to check out and came up with some results.

I figured I'd ask here though and see what some of the locals say to check out or to eat at and such. We're driving up from Florida so really want to make the most out of this trip.

Any inputs? Or are any of you guys going to this show? It's in White House, TN..30 minutes north of Nashville.

 

I'm from Franklin, which is about 20 min south of Nashville. I don't know if your big on nightlife or whatnot, but if your lookin for places to go at night, check out division street and demumbreum st, they intersect and there are about 20 bars that are always popping on the weekends due to the several college campuses in the area. There's also TONS of stuff to do on Broadway down by the river. Theres always up and coming country artists performing at local bars and sometimes even guys like Kenny Chesney and Toby Keith have been known to show up unannounced at bars and play a few songs. Not really any trails or anything that I know of in the area, so offroading is limited to pulling off the road and finiding your own trail. There's also some good fishin places on Percy Priest lake which is about 10-15 min from downtown.

 

This is exactly what I was looking for. We plan to go out and hit up the bars so I'll have to check out the streets you listed. Stoked to see some up-coming country artist trying to make it too, I love country. As for the trails, don't plan on off-roading at all but thanks.

Any must-see places? And what street or where is actual down town Nashville?

Broadway is Downtown and the most happening place, you can get there right off of I-65. Division st. is still downtown, but a couple blocks away. Pretty much every bar in the area has live music, and you can't really go wrong with any of them, but I really like Tin Roof and Winners/Losers (two bars right next door to each other). There's also the Cadillac Ranch right on broadway which is good too. As far as must-see places, there's not really a bunch, but the country music HOF is down there too if that tickles your fancy haha. Mainly just a bunch of stuff to do at night.

stumbled here randomly, but i'll throw in a little input since i love nashville. cant wait to go back. my only time there was on vacation with the parents several years ago, so i don't have any bar hopping advice, but nashville is a cool town.

first, country music hall of fame is worth going to. it's such a cool place with tons of very famous memorabilia. .. got to go to the Ryman Auditorium.... might as well go to an Opry show as well. . . as a guitar player, i though the gibson showcase in the gaylord mall was super badass. . . ernest tubbs record shop, a must go to place.

on your way there, i would go to the jack daniels factory in lynchburg. last i was there it was a free tour, and it was a really really good one. they take you all the places they take the camera crews when you see stuff on discovery channel and the like. they make it worth your time for sure.

i might think of some other places i can recall, but those for now are in my opinion must see places.

 

Dude, awesome response. I definitely plan to check out the country music HOF and a show at the Opry. And I never knew about the Jack Daniels factory but that sounds amazing, so thats now on the list too. Thanks for the input man!

i hope you have a good time. im a country music, more so classic country nut. so the HOF was a must from the get go. like i said, they have sooooo much awesome stuff in there. you'll easily spend half a day there.

and yeah JD was just a great tour. they basically take you through the old operation where they just make Gentleman Jack now. the new one is HUGE and not for visitors. but yeah, the making of the charcoal, the mash tanks, distilling, the drip barrels, the aging barns, the stream where they get the water, the bottling, everything. they take you to it all. and it's free!!

we even bought a used barrel head from a local store there thats on the wall in my barn now. really cool conversation piece. . . but anyway, i don't want to spoil it for you haha. just have a good time brotha!

 

I second all the above recommendations too, especially the Jack Daniels tour. I haven't spent much time near White House so I don't know too many places there. Here's my .02

If you like beer then check out Yazoo brewery. Tours are a few bucks I think. You get to try their beers on the tour and keep the pint glass. They have a tap room where you can hang out before/after the tour. Just come early because the tours fill up and the tap room gets crowded. It's on Division street too. There's also the Flying Saucer behind the Union Station hotel on Broadway. They've got almost any kind of beer you could want.

If you like bluegrass music the Station Inn on 12th Ave is a hotspot.

There's plenty of good places to eat around town. One of my favorite places downtown is Chappy's on Church ($$$) which is cajun and awesome, just a little pricey. Another is in on Lebanon Rd near Opry Mills call ed McNamara's Irish Pub. They have live Irish music almost every night of the week, but if you plan on going on a Friday or Saturday night call and make a reservation for the music room. If you like Irish music and are downtown there's another good place called Dan McGuiness which is on Demonbreum St. They have live music too but I haven't been there in a few years. If you feel like venturing into East Nashville (not always the best side of town), then Prince's Hot Chicken is supposed to be awesome if you like spicy stuff. If you like NYC style pizza then I'd go to Joey's House of Pizza (check hours before going) or Manny's House of Pizza downtown in the Arcade. Joey and Manny are brothers but if you go don't mention them to each other. Apparently it wasn't a good separation.

Wow, way helpful man. I love beer, so therefore if theres a brewery around town, I'm definitely checking that out! Thanks for the suggestions on places to eat as well, I'll have to look into a few of those. Thanks a ton man.

Once I get back I'm going to be posting a ton of pictures, mainly thanks to you guys. This is why I love this forum and its superior to any forum out there, so helpful on any topic!!

 

Puckett's Grocery in downtown Nashville is a really chill place. You can go there in the evening and watch live music, or you can go in the morning and eat some delicious breakfast! I highly suggest Bubba's Eggs Benedict!
