I just wanted to comment on my TRD supercharger. When I first got it, I thought it was a nice addition. S/C Tacoma......how cool. The truth is the TRD S/C is not quite worth the price. Sorry to all of those who love it. I am just being honest. I love the Tacoma, but don't get 4K worth out of the TRD S/C. TRD customer service really sucks and the resulting HP is less than worth mentioning. I have tried different variations with engine mods, smaller pulleys, exhausts, cams, etc. Unless you have a problem with being burned at the stoplight from a SRT, stay stock and enjoy your truck. Adding the S/C will get you some torque and to 60mph quicker, but not worth the price. If you want the HP and have the money, get the Tundra 5.7L. This is not for the current Tacoma owners, its for the ones who peer into this site for info. The Tacoma is a great truck as is. I feel that I am going to be burned on this one, but don't see the first S/C owners here much anymore. Please sound! I have to say that I am dragging larger tires and 4x4 gear and in no way refer to this as a bashing. X-runners are excluded. Test drive both the Tacoma and Tundra, Step on it!!!!! Feel the difference! Calculate the addition of the TRD S/C to the Tacoma vs. the stock Tundra. Sign up here and tell us your story. Oh Boy! I feel the heat coming! I know that there are not many S/C Tacomas sitting on the lots.

Looking at the specs I would have to agree with that. I am a hard core drag racer and have had SCs for many years. I like them when using higher boost...not likethe TRDs 5lbs....I currently run 16lbs boost on my mustang and if I ever did the Taco I would not settle for less than 10. Going to 300hp for the price is just not worth it. If you SC the taco go URD stage 3.

I will have my truck up for sale before long. The Tacoma is a great truck!!!!!!! I can't pick the S/C off though. Too many other mods to give it companionship.

Is it possible to change the pully on your SC?

Yes..........URD has a pulley for the TRD S/C. It works great!!!! Just ask Gadget. The problem is that with all mods including S/C, exhaust, CAI, DT headers, pistons, cams, etc., I just can't reach the level of my investment.

Yeah...I just checked out URD...looks like it can give up to 2lbs of boost more which would be good for about another 30hp. Sorry to hear your disapointment bro....personally I dont believe in all the laundry lists of mods to get a few HP. On any motor just go for high boost...do what you need to support fuel/timing/cooling hit a nice HP number that you want and then plan other possible upgrades. Gaining 5 hp with a cold air or 8-10 with exhaust for the money is just not worth it. At this point if I was you I would look into making the best of what you have...maxium boost(i.e. pulley) max compression etc.

Thanks, I was expecting to be executed for this thread. I am glad to know that there is someone else out there that has dabbled in this category. What happened to all of the original TRD S/C owners? I'm talking late 2007 and early 2008.

I think owner satisfaction with the SC is highly dependent upon intended use/expectations. I don't drag race or even "jack rabbit" off the stop lights but my '08 Tacoma, with over-sized tires, lift, and considerable weight in armor & recovery gear regularly makes the trip from Denver to Lake Powell, Utah pulling a small boat, as well as crawling all over the Utah dessert. Those trips require climbing over the Rocky Mountains. I bought the SC for the torque advantages and it delivers that, a smooth power band for towing and offroading which, for me is worth the price. I'm sorry the SC didn't suit your need. Maybe better research on your part would have led you to buy the right truck/vehicle for your needs in the first place instead of being unhappy over not being able to make your Tacoma into something it's not, and then blaming the truck or SC.

I agree your expecting to much out of the truck and s/c.

I got my s/c when they first released it back in 07 I actually ordered it after coming back from SEMA and talking to a few TRD reps about it. I'm very happy with it. It adds the right amount of power when you need it. I can light the tires up with no problem lol. In the end I'm putting down 300hp and 300tq at the wheels. The urd pulley is nice and tempting to get, but I don't feel like getting it at least now.

Smaller pulleys... plural, what different smaller pulleys have you ran, how much psi? What were you tuning with? What CR were you running? What was the cam grind? Who did your pistons, rods, cams?

How much HP were you making? It sounds like there are more reasons then the blower to be disappointed in your trucks performance. More information on your build please...

In the next couple months I will be faster then most of the URD Stage III. The TRD blower is under estimated more then people think. With the right mods, it will be VERY fast.

There is only one 05+ Tacoma that has recorded (based on public records) a quicker ET (me: 13.38) and faster MPH (me: 106.8) in the 1/4 then me and my stock pulley'd TRD Supercharger, and that would be a twin turbo'd XR, and he ran a 12.98 @ 106mph (fastest of 107.8mph).

Well..my 0.02 cents....I have seen 8 second trucks at the track so not sure why your the fastest? Maybe for a mostly stock Taco. And like we were trying to get at fast is relative...my street car (mustang) does high 9 second 1/4s with trap speeds just under 140 MPH....so to me you are slow. The dude is not happy with what he got out of what he put in...simple. As for the SC being under-rated.....any SC is only as good as how much boost they put out...what is the max boost on the TRD? (I honestly dont know):eek:This will tell you how much HP you can make no matter what other mods or magic you do. You cannot create more HP than air you put in....simple physics.

My mistake, i was referring to the 05+ Tacoma's. Fast is all in the eye of the beholder, what is fast to me, may be slow to others.

Every TRD blower tested to 16psi (for failure testing before being sold). The blower is good up to about 21k rpms. Most boost i've heard being run through the blower is 14psi (around 400g/s MAF). PSI is also relative. PSI does not indicate power (though it is a pretty close guess). MAF = Power. You are correct, the more MAF you move, the more HP your are capable of making.

OK....you guys motivated me to do some digging....I think the TRD supercharger for the 4.0 motor is the Eaton M90.....if someone can confirm this? If this is the case....it has a maxium airflow of approx. 600cfm at 14000RPM which would mean not matter what you do maxium horsepower will be hit around 400HP.
