    Hey gang,
Whats you're thoughts on the Emotion Glide?

We are beginners and this is for recreation, flat water, mild creeks/rivers, etc. In fact, we've only ever been out once last year. The Glide seems pretty popular and gets good reviews.

Looks just like what I had for 10 years and it should serve you well for the uses you listed. Seems a tad bit pricey so I would try to get a REI coupon or go during a sale.

For your comparison I bought a used 12' Perception this winter for $350 and that had a life jacket and paddle. There is always a guy on Craigslist in Doyelstown selling them. He buys out stores that are going out of business and also buys up rentals.

Yeah...unfortunately, I'm looking to buy at the wrong time of the year where prices are UP and availability is down.

Some places (online) are sold out. Very very limited (or not at all) on Amazon. We can handle 'pricey' but we are shopping around and its not looking good. Our local outfitter (by the river) is priced retail and I'm going to call and see what kind of deal I can get for a package deal (2 kayaks, 2 paddles, life vests, registration...etc). But I vision them not having any and have to wait to order them. We'll see..... Thanks!!

Why the rush? I would just wait until the season is over if you can and buy up some rentals. Most of the companies who rent purge their stock in the next couple months. I found that the month before Christmas is a great time to buy as well. Everyone needs cash and no one is thinking about 100* summer days so they throw their kayaks up F/S.

Also see if you can test the kayak out. Even with reviews you have no idea how you will feel in the yak unless you get in it. I have 2 cheaper Perceptions and this weekend I decided to take out a very nice yak my buddy is keeping at my place. While it's double the cost of mine and white water rated I hated every minute of my 4hr trip. I couldn't turn my feet strait so my legs would go numb, the cockpit was way to short for my legs, and while it tracked great it sits way to deep in the water so I was dragging everywhere. On the "books" it's a better yak, but in real life I hate it and will never ride in it again.

The blue one...think it's a Wilderness. It's the fastest of the three. It also doesn't have a drain plug. My cockpit opening is literally twice the size of it's. I would like it if I was offshore in the thick of some killer waves, but for anything else I hate it.

The NJ Hello from my buddy....lol

It's one of those things.... You gotta have it when the mood strikes you.

We were talking about getting some last summer but never did. Besides, if I bought one in the winter... I'd be disappointed that I couldn't try it out ( I won't be yakin in the winter).

I found out ... Emotion changed hands last winter. They're made by Lifetime Products in Utah now. Our local outfitter is having a lot of trouble getting Emotion Kayaks ever since they were bought out.

    Check out this then http://www.perceptionsport.com/kayaks/PRS_Swifty

Just about the same price, same length, same shape, etc as the one you posted. I have had the same exact yak for over a decade with zero issues.

Hereit is in action... lolz at all my friends giving me the finger when taking pics. Don't mind the low stance - we just flipped him in the water :D

and I thought it was OK to paddle 3 miles out into the Gulf of Mexico one day when it was flat like a lake. Lucky to have only been startled by a pod of curious dolphins. It was an eery thing to be that far out by yourself.

Visited our local outfitter down by the river....they were GREAT!! Sat in several kayaks and still found the Glide to be the best for us. Got to try the Glide Sport on the river for a bit to test 'em out. Ordered 2 of them but will have to wait for them to arrive. More have become available, so I'm hoping we'll have them sometime next week. Got our PFD's and paddles too. We're excited!

We probably paid more than we needed to - but we got a fair deal, joined their Adventure Club (save $$ on the overall purchase) and got great service and supported a local small business. We're happy..... and will probably visit these folks again. They were very very nice!!

    Thanks Gang!! We're excited...

Question for ya.... Where or how do you store all your 'important' stuff?

I already have a 'dry box' for my cell phone - which has a lanyard for around my neck (or put it in a backpak). We'll be carrying GPS's (on lanyard??).
What about keys, wallet, and other trinkets?

Do you install a dry box on the inside of the yak? Or is it better to have this stuff 'on your person' so it doesn't go floating downriver without you?

Any 'storage' type suggestions or how/what you carry drinks in? We have two camelbak backpaks, but obviously...you're not carrying those on your back.

    Yeah...I'm a newbie..... :D:eek:

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I put all of my stuff in the dry storage compartments of the yak...except for my cell phone...since it's waterproof...

i use one of these for my phone
    [IMG]http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt...p-t-701-s&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8&p=aquapac

if u filp and boats gone or what not you still have your phone around u neck
and it can be used inside of case without taking it out to place / recieve calls / take pics/ ect
as for the rest everything else goes into a dry bag and strapped to kayak
