How To: Black Head Light mod

spend the 20 minutes scraping the old window weld out and replace with new. Also remind yourself to put the corner reflector back in when reassembling. ask me how i know, d"oh.

 

Make sure you have a good seal when reassembling. I got a little impatient and now one of mine has a small leak that caused fogging.

Ive got the first one done. And its curring with the clamps on it. Trouble is those are the only 4 clamps that I have. How long should I wait to let the windo-Weld to fully cure before I put it back on the truck?

 

Looks good. If you have lens yellowing or fogging on the outside try mothers light restoration. I noticed that it stood out way more with the BHM and looked way better with the clear lens, hope this helps i will add photos of my light restoration for reference.

EDIT......so a very nice member hit me up and emailed me the entire set of pics and instructions. THANKYOU!!!!! got my headlights out and all rubber removed.....baking tomorrow!

If anyone else needs this I can email you the attachment to spread the wealth! I for one like to have pics to visualize what im doing. Helped me bunch for sure.

got ya.....bout to start puttin mine back together! Read the notes at the end as well in the attachment i sent you......whether you take the advice or not its a good little bit of info from people that have done many sets......def helped me.......paint looks mint and I suck at stuff like this......I did the "preburn" thing and it really evened out the coats of paint....

I used krylon satin black......didnt sand or anything( i had chrome lights)....worked great on coverage....as long as you have good basic rattle can technique ur good to go

no prob bro....glad I could help...like I said....another nice member hooked it up for me so the least I could do was help out others like me that just simply like pics to help.....i am touching one up as we speak....i caught the lip putting the bezel into the lens....other one looks great. For my 1st set ever im feeling pretty good bout it so far.

 

yall should have put projectors in there while you had them apart, would make it a more costly project but it is indeed a fun one.

 

Can someone give me the brand and type of silicone they used to seal up the lights for an extra barrier. hey....maybe even throw a pic up of it......lord knows im a visual kinda guy

I am finally putting the second one together when my set of gator clamps frees up.....after fucking up the paint on the bezel like three times.....twice putting it back into the lens(Im a lazy ass and didnt take any goop off the lens....2nd time....cuz im a stoner and removed goop from the wrong side), and then once putting the orange reflector in(again cuz i was lazy and thought i didnt have to tape it off...wrong!). After doing touch ups all day and playing battlefield while they dried I finally am ready to say I am done and they look fantastic IMO. I can so see why people charge to do this and why people dont want to do it themselves. Now that Ive done one set I know I could do it again and prob better. Projectors would have been nice but not within my budget by a long shot......this cost my 5 dollars in paint

edit....so after all the advice i got lol.....i ended up getting some permatex flowable silicone specifically for resealing glass and headlights. SHit worked awesome. I didnt buy that 25 dollar window weld kit....just reused the factory sealant. Its funny cuz everyone swears by the window weld but they acutally sell auto adhesive sealer for like 5 bux. I will def be the 1st to eat crow if mine fog up but really.....with the OEM sealant which there is tons of....and the added silicone(clear so it looks all purty still....im anal as hell) I cant see an issue arising.

 

Reinstalling was easy and painless....put the grill back on with the painted emblem.....all I gotta do now is aim the lights once its dark

Love how it came out.....now Im thinking some angry eyelids and it will be done(until I get a grillcraft or satoshi of course)
