    Well, then you two would have been absolutely thrilled about a decade or two ago. At that time (and for decades prior), nearly every vehicle came with similar bare tires and painted steel rims covered with aluminum or plastic hub caps. Only the very cheapest vehicles came with the bare tires and painted rims alone, without the hub caps.

    To dress up vehicles, many installed custom chrome or polished aluminum rims, often with raised white letter tires to obtain a sportier look. Manufacturers, bowing to that, eventually included aluminum or chrome wheels, occasionally with raised white letter tires, with new vehicles, offering fancier aluminum or chrome wheel options for those wanting more. That's generally where the mainstream vehicle market is today.

    Based on all that, it's strange to now see some actually seeking that earlier 'bare tires and painted steel rims without hub caps' look. To me, it looks incredibly cheap - the bare tires and bare painted rims look like the spare tire under the rear designed for emergency use, not appearance.

    To each his own, of course. It's your truck, not mine. But, on mine, I'd try nearly anything (hub caps, chrome the bare rims, or whatever) to not have that look.

    IMHO, work trucks and motorcycles just look better not all tarted up with shinny stuff. :)

    The other day I saw a guy with man tits, carrying a Chihuahua in his arms, step out of a chromed out Lincoln pickup truck in front of my shop. I think I'd rather be shot than have that in my future.

    About 100 miles South of Deadhorse, AK. Got in at 1am in a snow storm with 4 inches of mud on the road & freezing fog. Notice no chrome.
