Whew, I tried this a few months back. Having so much trouble with my 90 toyota truck I quit for a while before I break shit. I'm having engine and/or trans. trouble.

    That's a solid looking 90. 3.0 or 22re?

I'm determined, but the ridiculously tight budget and my lack of experience is making this a difficult process. It's wearing on me a little.

Can you have a buddy weld on a new muffler tip? Was that the only reason they failed you? I'd be curious if you could just cut the rusty section off and leave it like that.

No-can-do. The muffler was brazed on instead of welded. I guess that's bad and some other rust.
    Definately not overpowered!
It's coming along. The front end is getting all the attention.

Put on your patience hat:). I won't be doing much for a little while. I have small windows of opportunity each month that I'm able to throw money at the Runner.

It's worth it in the end, and you won't be lacking experience for long. The key is to have no fear of tearing into the vehicle, and clearly you're already there. Anything that breaks can be fixed, so have at it!

    And subscribed. :)

Thanks. I agree it's worth it. And, it's not that I have no fear, but, I have no choice but to overcome it if I want to get anything accomplished. FWIW, the more i rip into this 4runner, the more impressed I get with it's condition. Yes, some things need fixed, but overall, it seems aged as opposed to abused/neglected. I'm averaging about 16mpg, which is pretty good for this weight/engine/drivetrain combo. A seafoam treatment netted almost no smoke (good sign, but dissappointing:)). The engine leaks oil, but it's from common places (valve covers and oil cooler). All fluids (engine oil, diffs, transfer case, and transmission) are not new, but in good condition.

Did the ISR mod today. For those that aren't in the know, that's the Intake Silencer Removal mod. Cost was around $25-$30 if you had to go out and buy all the pieces. I had some of them laying around the garage.
    Here is the stock intake...
Here is the intake tubes and silencer removed. Below that is what I replaced it with(gray pipe). It allows the air a bit more of a direct approach to the throttle body.
    Here is the end result.
I like how it turned out. The only downside so far is that it blocks the oil and transmission dipsticks a little. I can still get to them, but it's a PITA. I may yank it out at some point and paint it, but I'm not too worried about it right now.
