The radiator connection has wide open access and easiest to disconnect

If it were mine I would first get extra fluid, then disconnect the out line ( return ) at the radiator, slip a section of hose on that radiator outlet into a bucket ( 5 gal ) have a buddy for help to add new fluid to the trans as the truck ran until the fluid comes out new.

Then pull the pan clean the screen and re-install the pan and add fluid as necessary.

The truck running will pump fluid out far faster than it can be added at the dipstick tube. You'd run the thing dry trying to do it this way.

This process is a pain in the ass with or without a buddy to help.

Good luck to the OP. Looking forward to hearing the result.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
Are you sure this is from the water? I remember hearing about potential for the engine coolant lines to leak into your tranny (used to cool the tranny fluid). You may have a bigger problem than you think.

    Sucks bro.

nah im certain. I changed my engine oil a week ago and was going to do my first drain and fill but didn't have time. I checked the dipstick then for color.

I do have that problem with my dirtbike though.... bad coolant impeller bearing. thats my next thing.

I have the pan off now. What should I clean it, the screen and the components behind the pan with? Wd40? I tried CRC connection cleaner on the screen. Seems to work well, and I know it's okay for sensitive things like rubber and plastic. But what does everyone else use?

Also, how do you clean the metal screen? Can i get it out of its metal housing?

You need to pull the pan first.

The system draws fluid from the pan, which is currently contaminated.
He can't completely empty the pan through the pump... he needs to pump out to drain and refill in no more than 2 quart intervals.

2 quarts out, 2 new quarts in the pan = pan contains 4 quarts of slightly less contaminated fluid.

okay, i put the pan back on. wow what a bitch that was. stripped the female threads on one of them.... Friday the 13th bad luck I guess...

that god forsaken FIGP or whatever it's called is so stupid. I really hope i put it on right.... Why can't they just have a normal fucken gasket! It was really hard to get the front end of the pan on without smearing the liquid gasket all over the place.

Speaking of that gasket, how long do i have to wait before i can turn the truck on and start flushing???????

Hey Rich, what do you think about carefully drilling and tapping the T/C then loctite in a plug after it drains? You could do two 180 opposite if you were worried about balance issues.

I wouldn't... tolerances are close, you don't know what's directly under the intended drill location (it's not just a bowl), and I'd be very worried about damaging the lockup clutch.

Drill stop collar? I know my diesel instructor has done it to his personal truck, but I've read mixed things. The guy is a pretty damn good mechanic though.

Ya... not without having previously been inside an identical unit.

Meh, anyone else have uncertainty when adding ATF to the dipstick to get up to the right level? I have all the milkyness out, the flush went well. But when i buttoned everything up got the trans up to temp to check the level, the oil wasn't high enough to hit the dipstick. So i put in a bottle of lucas (750ml) and another quart of synthetic. I'm trying to check now but... since i just poured it in the dipstick hole, naturally it just gets all over the dipstick.

I guess it should be a lot thicker at the bottom? idk, i'm afraid of overfilling...

Checking ATF levels is always a pain in the ass.
Park flat and level with the trans at full temperature (warmer temps will raise the level)
Cycle the shifter through all gears, waiting a couple of seconds at each point, return to Park, pull dipstick, wipe clean, reinsert, and check.

There will be fluid "all over" the stick, but if you look closely, you'll see the point where the color is solid across the stick.

Why did you put the bottle of Lucas in? That stuff is shit and has no place in an engine, tranny, or fuel tank.

Well I had the truck up to temp, and I added one quart at a time, waiting for the fluid in the dipstick to drain to the bottom and the new quart to come up to temp with the rest of the trans, shift through all the gears, then checked it. By the time i added all the new fluid, it was between the Min Hot line and the cold line. So i drove it down to Advance to get one more quart (drove very well, besides the hauling of my belt pulleys ) and i checked it in the parking lot and it was PERFECT. right between the Min and Max Hot lines. But then when I got back home, in the same level spot, i measured it and it was above the Max hot line. *facepalm*..... So idk, im gonna drive down the road, come back and check it. If it's too high again I'll a quart out.....

As far as the Lucas, idk, I'm very skeptical as well, but a few people have commented that they used it and it worked well, and they sponsor a lot of Motocross stuff so i figured what the hell... hopefully the least it will do is nothing.
