Interestingly, neither of my breakages occurred "rock crawling" either (as though you can do that in a non-SAS'd tacoma).

If you're happy with your e-locker, yay. Just realize it can't hold up to much in the way of work. Let's be clear: I'm not some moron pedal romper hitting obstacles at redline tach.

And just to refresh: The topic of discussion had drifted to how one can get the most Tacoma for their money, hence the suggestion of dropping an ARB air locker in an SR5 4x4 Tacoma with the trussed bearing caps and shimmed carrier bearings. These diffs also have 10mm housing studs instead of 8mm. They are well known to be stronger differentials.

Toyota knows the issue is out there. That's why they started putting larger ring and pinion gears in 2010+ FJs and Tacomas:

    http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/foru...ids/108341-has-anyone-re-geared-2010-a-2.html

Unfortunately it feels like a band-aid. These trucks really need a 9" ring gear to be considered solid considering the amount of weight and engine power they have.

It is everywhere but here, mainly because TW is more about looking like you go offroad than actually going offroad. Check out TTORA, Pirate you'll find plenty of discussion of e-locker issues. FWIW, that TTORA thread I linked earlier IS a sticky over there.

Just tint and ppl for now.
I think you missed the point a bit. The 8.4" rear is more stout and is only offered with the SR5 and/or sport model. The SR5 is a cheaper option and could be locked just the same/better than a factory locked truck. So, take that locked 8.4" SR5 to places an 8" may have you wondering whether its going to go bust.

I don't care that you don't care about my opinion. Ignore it if it's causing you so much angst.

If you'd actually follow the conversation you'll notice my comments are directed more at people wanting to waste $1,000 to have fake beadlock Baja wheels and not whether or not the Baja is a good truck/value.

It's not an insult, it's just calling it what it is. Plenty of people mod vehicles for looks, that's their business. It's not my game, but there's a reason the aftermarket is huge (and the reason the Baja package exists). Lots of people want the form with no intention of function.

well alot of us dont buy trucks to max our credit cards out in mods and air lockers. (though on board air would be bad ass). so lifting a TRD OR, which is already locked from the factory, and is a decent locker even if the extreme off roaders dont agree, is a good choice, and can be very capable with little out of pocket expense.

The models without the e-locker, yes. But it's not 8.4 inches. It never has been. All the ring gears in 2gen Tacoma rear ends are 8 inches in diameter, with the exception of the new-for-'10 8.2" rear ends, which are actually 8.2" and larger than the so-called "8.4".

No one really knows where the 8.4 got its name. Perhaps to connotate the increased strength of the diff compared to the previous 8" rear ends?

Who would that be? Not trolling - serious.

A quick internet search shows Jiaxing Chinawin Import and Export Co., Ltd. is the manufacturer of OEM Toyota wheels. Maybe TRD Wheels are made by someone else?

He still will not tell us how the weather was when toyota tested and found the best shock valve settings to use on the ubber special assemblies to be found in the baja models that no one else can buy.

He is special as well, in that he paid a undisclosed amount for his baja that is so low the world would cease to exist.

Now the baja wheels are made by the best in the business but we cannot know who.

Sarcasm through all that you are reading.

Just so everyone knows he has the best truck to ever roll off the factory floor with a warranty.

Please show us how you are correct since none of us know our facts but you are the one to not state any info besides the brochure you read.

I'd still keep mine if offered a flat trade. But hey, he's the one paying for it...
