    Haha, easy mistake to make on 1st gens. Shorter shock to drivers rear

    Longer shock to pass. rear

    lowest 2 numbers at end of part # = shorter shock, etc;.....;)

    Yea easy mistake. Wasn't me who made it though, I got a shop to install my 5100's. Normally do work myself, especially shocks, but I don't have a spring compressor and I didn't have the time or space to do it.

    Not a big deal, as long as nothing is damaged.

    Ok I tried searching and couldnt find it.. I was wondering if my bilstein 5100 is the rear passenger or rear driver side, the number is F4-BE5-6583-H5

    so im kinda new to the whole having a 4wd truck and i just put the 5100 on my 98 and love them but i had a friend of mine tell me i have to do the diff drop on my truck...? i tried doing a search to find out if its required and the dsm website doesnt say they need the diff drop. I also read ill loose my factory skid plate(i know its weak and almost pointless just dont like the open space) I dont hear any noises or shakes at full lock on the wheel... Can someone help me out with this?!?!

    People generally don't bother with diff drops unless they have lifted 3 inches. I don't know what setting you have the 5100s at, but 2.5 is the max for those. Anyways, the effectiveness of diff drops is strongly debated. The idea is that they would reduce the CV angle caused by the lift, which can cause the CV boots to rub and tear prematurely. But apparently they aren't effective at preventing this.

    If you bash the factory skid hard, yes, eventually you will bend it up. It isn't super stout, but it is better than nothing. Then you will have an excuse to buy some real armor. Might as well wait until you prove you need it.

    yea i have the clips set at 2.5. I was told its when I turn the wheel all the way one way it makes the cv's angry... possibly locking out or pulling the axle shaft from the cv joint.

    Question about these gentleman.

    If I purchase just the shocks and do the max lift (2.5 inches)

    Would i be ok to run 285/75/16s

    or will I need to get the springs for the front and the AAL

    TIA!

    getting really close to making my purchase, but I wanna make sure i do it right

    TRD PRO wheels 265/70/17 falken wildpeak at3w HS 2 inch coils 1.5 rear leafs. bilstein 5100's all the way around. husky liners,coverking seat covers. tinted 20%
    I just ordered bilstein 5100's for my 2001 Tacoma, I plan to set them on the second setting for 1-1.25 inch of lift just to level my truck out. do you guys suggest putting in a diff drop. btw ordered them from wheelers off road. great price's very happy doing business there

    so if i use a leveling lift thats 3" in front and 2.5" in the rear this would be the part numbers i would use, or am i mistakin...??? :confused:

    this is my first tacoma build so i get confused on things easily.... if it was a jeep id be ok... hahaha...!!! :cool:

    The Bilstein part numbers listed by J88logue are for 4600 series shocks not 5100's. Bilstein's website does not list 5100's for 1st Gen Tacomas only 2nd Gen. You can get them from DSM or Wheelers set up for 1st Gens.
