Fluid extractor to change oil ?

Anyone use fluid extractors to change their oil ? Seems with the oil filter on top- changing oil and filter could be done in a Tuxedo if an extractor worked.

 

are you planning to change your oil in your Tuxedo?

I guess my question is; are we all really that fucking lazy we'd need to use a fluid extractor and work against gravity? Why not just keep changing your oil the old fashioned way?

I could see using one if you were a crotchedy old man with back problems no one liked, and everyone refused to lay underneath and drain it for you...

How fast do you want it to come out? The oil gushes outta there like niagara falls.....I can't imagine you'd make the process any faster using an extractor. In fact, you'd probably slow the process down. Power assisted with suction? That'd be interesting..... but too much extra crap to clean up afterwards.

I'll stay in the stone ages and use my drain valve, my bucket, and my dirty old jeans.

 

Plus climbing under the truck gives you a reason to look at everything else under there. I got the "included" service form my truck...so I have to remember to take a look under the body every once in a while (lucking I did-Noticed a crankshaft oil leak...)

I have used these before and they work fine. I did not have an easy way to get under my vehicle so this was better than nothing. It takes a bit longer than gravity draining them but not a big deal. There are several different types using an electric drill, hand pump and vacuum pump. My houseboat also has twin V-8s and the drain plugs are not accessable so the dip stick tube has a built in threaded hose fitting at the top. Run the engine to warm the oil and pump away.

 

I wouldn't use a fluid extractor but I did buy a Fumoto Drain Valve. Attach a tube to it and drop the other end in an empty container. Open the valve (using your hand) and you never contact the oil.

Also, attach a tube to the filter catch pan drain and run into the same bottle.


The messiest part will be refilling. Use disposable funnels and you have a very clean process. Not a single drip and you don't even need a towel around (except to check the stick when finished).

 

I would only use the extractor set up say in transmission fluid type exchanges ( or similar events or concerns ), and only if you did it for a living....You know, some of those old tranny pans with no drain plugs and you always take a bath at some point...To avoid that..

Years ago my mothers boss was under his truck working on it with his legs sticking out. His wife yells to him that she is going to the store. When she returns his legs are still sticking out and in a frisky jesture reaches up his shorts and give his tool a good shake. She then goes inside and finds her husband standing there with two beers in his hand. He couldn't get the part loose and his neighbor was under the truck trying to get it loose.

yeah, if everytime I layed under ym truck, I was gonna get ridden...I'd be out there everyday.
