I'm sure it was jacked up. As long as they fixed the car I didn't care. The cart was missing the rubber bumpers under the basket, and it hit the fender and then rode up the hood. It was a pretty massive gouge. The lot was pretty steep, and it had some speed built up. I was only about 4 steps from stopping it. Just couldn't close fast enough.

man i leave my truck parked in a fred meyer parking lot ~45 hours a week. I only park my truck next to a pavement barrier so only one person can park next to me, and half the time my tires are on the barrier. (normally a barkdust thing with a tree) to give them a full swing and a half room of door.

please always do something, atleast leave the person who received damages the pictures or the information of the prick who did the damage.

some lady ghost rid her shopping cart into my truck while trying to toss the cart into the corner... she was WAY off. banged it up real bad. She saw it heading towards my truck.. saw it slam into it, drag across my front fender... she turned around and walked away like nothing happened. I was walking by on the sidewalk but there was a fence that separated me from her. I yelled "WTH" and ran, but she took off. I took my belt off and everything ready to whoop her face in.

i hope she got hit by a train or something =) just kidding... but for real... i hope she. did... just kidding =)

total damage? over 1200. had blend the front and rear door as well as the fender. not to mention the huge ding. i just left it

Personally, I'd like to shoot the perpetrators of such damage full of holes. My 2012 already has several dings, all from flaming idiots who evidently cannot even successfully park a vehicle. One of those incidents resulted in deep scratches over a roughly 10-inch area of my rear bumper. My wife's minivan also now has several dings.

And, of course, all involved hit & run drivers leaving without contact info and/or a police report of the accident. As such, we're stuck with the cost of fixing the damage and I can't even imagine how much that will be or how much our insurance rates might go up if we choose that route. It's almost like the sleazy perpetrators have stolen that money from us.

We spent nearly $50,000 between these two vehicles - a darn good chunk of our change. To see them so quickly defaced through the sheer stupidity or neglect of others is pure sickening. I'm angry as hell.

I'm also angry as hell about the loathsome attitude of the police. We're out serious money, yet most cops don't even want to write a simple report, much less investigate (store cameras, etc). I wonder how many millions upon millions are lost by vehicle owners in this country each year as a result of such damage.

The one ass that did open their door into my X-Runner got away with it... I go out to my regular bars several times a week, If there's no street parking (in sight of the bars) i'll park in the free parking lot down the street and try to park as far from everyone as I can... Sometimes, I'll luck out and find a corner parking spot and park as far away from the line as possible... This time, I had parked at the end of the lot in the spot closest to the sidewalk. there was a huge gap between the truck and the line... I guess it wasn't enough space.

From what I've read up on, It's considered Vandalism at least in california.

I feel your pain brother. I live in an urban area and the cops attitude is its not our problem. I carry a claw hammer in the back seat now. An eye for an eye?

I usually try to just park where there is no one around. But what really pisses me off is peole who just leave their grocery buggy's in the middle of the parking lot, especially in a place thats real windy. My last truck, after having it for one week, I had a buggy come aross the parking lot right as i got out of my truck and hit the front end of my bumper. Yesterday i saw one blow across a parking lot and slam into the side of a brand new Cadillac CTS. Seriously, how lazy can you be? they have designated buggy returns almost every 30ft no matter which way you walk!

I'm saving up for sliders just for the reason of door dings.

Along the lines of parking far away from people, I also try to park upwind and/or uphill, so if a cart starts rolling because of the wind or hill, there is a good chance physics will be on my side.

Some people are just rude and could care less. These seem to be the same people who don't know how to park. What's so hard about parking in the lines. So when I see a particularly bad parking job, I used to get frustrated.

I've solved my frustration by printing this on Avery Labels. I just pick one that is appropriate and stick it on the driver's window.

    What do you think?

You guys think cali is bad!?
Try living here in El Paso (right across from Mexico). Now i have nothing against people from Mexico, after all I'm part mexican lol but those people are some of the most careless people i have ever come across. They will try and squeeze a Bro-ed out f150 with more chrome than you would believe into the worlds tiniest parking spot. Not only that! But they also park so ridiculously retarded its amazing.
Anyways, i always try and park my truck next to concrete barriers so that only one car can park next to me also.
Ive been wanting sliders, so now is a good excuse to spend the dough :D

I usually try to park as far away as possible. It's been awhile, but one time that pissed me off, I had parked my '87 Cougar XR7 way out where no one else was even close. When I came out, there's an older lifted pickup with probably 38" tires parked within a couple inches of my car. I couldn't even get in the driver's door. There wasn't any marks on my car, but it was obvious what the asshole was doing. I decided to use a little trick someone had once showed me. Find a small stone and remove their valve stem cap. Put the stone on top of the valve stem and reinstall the cap. As the cap is screwed on, the stone will push the valve down enough to let air out. Once you hear the air escaping, that's tight enough. I wonder what he thought when he came back out and had 4 flat tires. :D

A week after i bought my truck i took it into the woods and went bushwaking. Lots of scratches. After a year out in the woods I wouldnt be able to tell if someone scratched my truck in a parking lot. 5 years down the road and the new scratches just make it look better.

    problem solved!

however, to your point - it does suck to see people who just dont care about the consequences of their actions and while i dont get woundup over a few scratches i can understand those who do want to keep their truck looking new for as long as possible.

I bought the OEM black sidesteps off CL for $150 and it's amazing how well they protect from car door dings. They don't do much to protect from trucks, and don't protect as well in angled spaces, but you can basically park worry-free in normal spaces next to cars.

I'd say you're stuck turning it into your insurance unless you catch the guy in the act and can convince him to exchange insurance.

If you're in Mexico, you might not realize that scratches and dings can rust quickly here in the midwest USA where we get 40" of rain/yr and treat our roads with tons of salt all winter.

Most of you know this, but my co worker (ex best friend) hit and run my truck when it was practically brand new to the tune of 3,500 damage. You bet I "chased" her down and insisted she call her insurance.
