Need Help With Tie Rod End

    I have a bit of a situation with my tie rod end. I broke one of them and have been trying to buy a replacement. I've looked on several different websites and checked with auto zone and they keep showing me the same part, but when a buddy of mine and myself tried to put it on we realized it was waaaaay too long and not the right part. I've done a little more digging and the only part I can find that looks like the one on my 2011 trd sport 4wd is the tie rod end from first gen tacomas. I bought my truck new so I'm trying to figure out (if at all possible) why a first gen outer tie rod would be on my truck and if I buy that part will it fit?:confused:

    that nut on the actual tie rod basically locks the tie rod end from unscrewing. did you back that nut all the way off before fitting on the new tie rod end?

    Yeah I moved the nut as far as I could and it was a solid inch to long. I already ordered the one from Rick auto according to my vehicle specs and it wasn't the right one. I do have a 6" Fabtech lift, would they have swapped em out when I got the lift put on? That's the only thing I can think of.

    Is the spacer on the bolt backwards? Does the skinny end go through the sway bar, then the nut?

    I take it you didn't do the lift installation yourself. How long ago was it installed and have you spoken with the shop that performed the install?

    Yeah I didn't do the lift myself, I did it back in september when I got back from the deployment, I didn't know anything at all back then about anything automotive haha. I attached a picture on the first post on here. I went to toyota and the part they gave me was also the same one that I got from rock auto and auto zone. One thing I do have a question on as well is the tie rod ends I have on there right now feed in through the top, and every diagram I've seen they always feed through the bottom...could that be the issue/solution.

    That is not a stock tie rod in your pic. OEM feeds in through the bottom. To compensate for the lift, new tie rods were put in and flipped so the angle on the rack isnt so bad. Call the manufacture of the lift(revtek, pro comp) and see if there is a warranty, or if you can get a replacement, or if they have a cross refeence to buy from a local store.

    I had a jeep tj from 2000. when I went to do the brakes they kept giving me the wrong pads from different stores. When I finally had the guy grab every brake pads for the same year for all of the different models. I figured out new from the factory they put the wrong brakes for my model jeep.

    I don't know if this can happen on a tacoma or not?

    Ohhh alright, the lift is fabtech, I got it installed at 4wheelparts in austin so I'll see if I can figure it out. Thanks!!

    so do I need to call 4wheelparts or fabtech to get the new one? it's under warranty.

    Don't know. Start with 4wp, since they sold it and installed it.
