Is there anyone out there who has converted the drum to disc on their Tacoma?
I pull a boat and if there was only one thing I'd like to change, would be to have 4 wheel disc.

The jist of the threads where rear discs have been used is it hurts stopping power. The truck was designed with rear drums...There are significant changes needed to make rear discs work and even if you do all that....It's no help.

Thank You Brunes.... and after reading alllllll the posts on REAR DISC's, it doesn't sound like a good solution. The reason for my question was that I pull a trailer and the comfort factor is not there when I hit the brakes. I might look into the larger rotors for the front... but sounds like they're pretty $$$$$.

    Some ideas:

Get the brakes bled. Add stainless steel brake lines front and back. Refill with better brake fluid (Amsoil or Motul DOT4 is probably a good idea). Get some better pads...if you have the dough better discs could help too.

Does your trailer have electronic or hydraulic brakes?? Cause if you tow regularly, it probably worth the upgrade to trailer brakes.

    Hope that stuff helps!!

Excellent points... well taken and hate to say... overlooked. That would be a good place to start and not too expensive.
    Thank you...

No worries man...That is the nice part about brakes...You can do it step by step. Try a lil...and then add to that...

I'm doing the fluid to Motul DOT4 with stainless lines and a bleed (done by me...so I know it's right)...I'm holding off on new pads until I feel that. With bigger tires and the lift I wanted some more positive feel.

    Good luck!!

Yes... as I've also added some larger tires and the "Positive Feel" is what I'm looking for. I'm going to do a fluid and brake line swap and would be something quick and not too expensive.
Please give me some ideas on locations to get the SS brake lines.
Oh.. and BTW... but trailer has not brakes... but I've been looking at a trailer swap as well... but I'm evaluating all my options first... You know the $$$ factor.

I hear ya. And my suggestion about hte trailer all depends on what you do with it.

Wheelers offroad has: That's where I got mine. Toytec offers some rear lines. You should be able to hunt around and find Goodridge lines.

..and a good brake controller that allows for adjustability setup/boost.
    It'll make the towing/stopping experience a life-saver.

I agree... I've been pulling 12,500lb trailers for the last decade, and a good brake controller and good trailer brakes (on all axles) makes the difference... When adjusted properly, the truck stops itself, and the trailer stops itself...
